Not only do we have a short slate but we’ve also got two early games so just make sure you’ve got the right players lined up for the right contests today. There’s really no in-between on the starters here. There are some high-end hurlers that will cost big bucks and a few darts in the lower-priced tiers. The middle-of-the-road guys can stay right there….in the middle of the road. Here’s a look at the data and some notable selections:

Madison Bumgarner, SF – He shut down these Mets for six scoreless inning frames earlier in the year and now he gets them as they’re sitting in a pretty bad funk. Their on-base work has been slightly better but they’re still posting a 27th-ranked .311 wOBA over the past week. MadBum should be a must if you can find the bargain bats.
Jose Fernandez, MIA – In other “no duh” news, Fernandez against a soft Reds lineup is a nice way to go as well. Cincinnati has just a .308 wOBA against right-handed pitching this year and that comes with a 21.3-percent strikeout rate which jumps to 22-percent when they’re at home.
Jake Arrieta, CHC – Totally sucks that he’s one of the early games today as this match-up is one that I really love today. The Brewers are likely to still be without Ryan Braun, they have a .309 wOBA against righties this year and that comes with a 25.6-percent strikeout rate. Come on.
Danny Salazar, CLE – A successful side session the other day is nice and I think Salazar will be just fine against a White Sox team he’s held to a 2.25 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP and 14 strikeouts over 12 innings in two starts against them. However, I wonder how many pitches they’ll let him throw tonight and if that could limit him. If he can go six innings, then fine, but even a five-inning win will be tough on the return value.
Hisashi Iwakuma, SEA – They say you strike while the iron is hot, but for here, you’re striking while the bats are cold. And these Angels are downright freezing right now. They’ve posted a .293 wOBA over the past week and that comes with a .394 slugging percentage. While Iwakuma’s numbers against them have been about average, he hasn’t faced them since May and these Halos just aren’t the same right now.
Reynaldo Lopez, WAS – You like darts? I like darts. Lopez doesn’t really have the experience you like to put your trust into here, but for a GPP play, why the hell not? His splits against right-handed hitters aren’t great in his 15-inning sample size, but these Braves are still loaded with lefty bats and those he does well against. Let’s also not forget that the Braves continue to rank at the bottom of the league (29th overall) with a .295 wOBA and .127 ISO against righties.
Archie Bradley, ARI – Another good dart here because you’re going to be able to get some strong offensive power in your lineups given Bradley’s price. The Padres are an outright mess right now. They’ve posted just a .219 wOBA (no, that’s not a typo) with a .113 ISO and 29-percent strikeout rate over the past seven days. Seriously….a 34 wRC+? You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve seen Low-A teams post better numbers against major league hurlers.
