*Players are listed in the table in order of preference for the day of action. The write-ups are listed in alphabetical order for ease of reading.
CATCHER
Arencibia is batting .478 with three homers and 11 RBIs over 23 at-bats against righties. Versus righties this year Tillman has allowed a .476 SLG.
Jaso is batting .281 with a .361 OBP in September. The numbers are almost identical when a righty is on the bump this season (.286/.363).
Martin has had a tough second half but he’s been much better of late hitting three homers with 11 RBIs over his last five games.
Wieters has a .367 OBP in September. His season has been up and down, but he’s hit .286 with a .460 SGL against lefties this season and he’s crushed Moore who is struggling (8-for-14, two homers).
FIRST BASE
Davis has a .294-10-29 line over 163 at-bats against lefties. Moore has been obliterated over his last five outings: 9.27 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and .354 BAA.
Hosmer has three homers, five doubles and 12 RBIs over 40 plate appearances against Kluber. His work against righties has been impressive (.318/.393/.503) even though he’s had a slow September.
Lind has a .432 batting average and .595 SLG over 37 plate appearances against Lackey. He’s been on his game in September with a .300/.429/.550 line.
Loney in September has been tearing it up hitting .342 with a .405 OBP. He he’s hitting .289 against righties this season and Tillman has allowed a 9.95 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and a .341 BAA his last four starts.
SECOND BASE
Forsythe continues to push hard to the finish line with a solid September (.302/.383/.472). His numbers against Tillman: .353/.353/.471.
Gordon on a short slate makes a lot of sense. He’s batting .322 on the road and is hitting .323 against righties. He’s batting .362 with six steals in September.
Odor has two homers and eight RBIs his last seven games. He’s also got that impressive wOBA working for him.
Rendon has been pretty effective his last six games with a homer, four RBIs, six runs, a .481 batting average and a basically .500 wOBA.
THIRD BASE
Longoria has a .348 average, six homers and a 1.238 OPS over 51 plate appearances against Tillman. He’s been pretty good in September with four homers and a .288/.361/.577 line.
Machado faces Moore who cannot, for his life, get a righty out. Over eight starts this season Moore has been obliterated to the tune of a .386/.462/.504 slash line.
Moustakas has a killer line against the returning from injury Kluber going .457/.500/.686 over 38 plate appearances. He has four homers, 13 RBIs and a .585 SLG over his last 12 games.
Plouffe has two homers, seven RBIs and a better than .500 wOBA the past six games. He’s hitting .265 at home with a .486 SLG.
SHORTSTOP
Escobar has a .484 SLG versus lefties this season and he’s been ripping it up in September with three homers, nine RBIs and a .895 OPS on the month.
Lindor is on it yet again in what is turning out to be a miracle rookie season. Over his last six games he’s batting .429 with a .500 OBP, a homer, a steal and seven runs knocked in.
Segura in September is batting .328 with a .775 OPS. He’s swiped four bags as well.
Simmons is finally hitting. Over his last six he’s posted a .333 batting average with four RBIs.
OUTFIELD
Brantley has a homer and a .316 average and .474 SLG over 19 at-bats against Ventura. His numbers are even better against righties this season (.327/.516).
Carrera is batting .325 over his last 40 at-bats, but it’s the side of the plate he swings from that is important – the left. Wisler cannot, for the life of him, get lefties out (.350/.449/.513).
A cheap play, shot in the dark type. Collin Cowgill. He has six hits in 13 at-bats against Milone (1.231 OPS).
Heyward is facing Nelson and lefties have had a lot of success against him this season (.298/.379/.427). Heyward is batting .294/.390/.451 in September.
Hunter is suddenly hitting against with two hits in five of eight games and six RBIs his last three outings. He’s batting .400 with a 1.000 OPS over his last five games.
Adam Jones is 11-for-21 against Moore hitting .524 with a 1.422 OPS. Jones has nine RBIs his last five games.
Revere is batting .345 with four steals and 13 runs scored in 14 games in September. Wisler cannot, for the life of him, get lefties out (.350/.449/.513).
Werth is 5-for-8 against Cosart. He has four homers and seven RBIs the last three times he’s been on the field.
