With today's reasonably sized early and late slates, I will be talking about some of the best plays at each position for both slates. Rather than follow my usual "paying up", "reasonably priced options", and "big values" format, I will simply be identifying whether the players are for the early slate or the late slate.

Let's get things rolling!

EARLY SLATE

Russell Martin did not have the best spring training and is still hitless in 2016, but he is 3-for-7 (.429 AVG) with two homeruns vs. Matt Moore. He also has a career .383 OBP against southpaws.

Robinson Chirinos will likely be in most of my lineups for the early slate as long as I can get confirmation that he is starting. He is a good value throughout the industry, and is 2-for-5 (.400 AVG) with 2 extra-base hits and three RBIs against Wade Miley.

LATE SLATE

Matt Wieters could be a 20+ homerun player year-after-year if it wasn't for his injuries throughout his career. Kyle Gibson is more of a ground ball pitcher, but he does allow a lot of contact, which is something that definitely benefits someone like Wieters.

Josh Phegley is the king of the righty-versus-lefty platoon. He has a high homerun rate considering he doesn't get much playing time. While he only has two at-bats against Carlos Rodon, he was still able to launch a homer in one of those at-bats.

EARLY SLATE

Paul Goldschmidt is the best player on the board for today's early slate, and gets a good matchup against Tyler Chatwood who hasn't pitched a regular season game since 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Brandon Belt faces Taylor Jungmann of the Brewers, who allowed a .342 OBP against left-handed hitters last season.

Chris Carter may always be a Mendoza Line hitter, but he happens to be 7-for-15 with three homers, two doubles, and 7 RBIs against Jeff Samardzija. Yes, he strikes out far too often, but he’s in play everywhere due to his huge ceiling given his elite power.

LATE GAMES

Adrian Gonzalez will probably be the chalk of the chalk considering he’s underpriced and is 11-for-32 (.344 AVG) with 4 homers against Andrew Cashner.

Freddie Freeman sees a lot of Stephen Strasburg in the NL East, and has absolutely destroyed him. He is 12-for-28 (.429 AVG) with 3 homers and nine RBIs in his previous meetings against Strasburg.

Ryan Zimmerman had an impressive Spring and has had plenty of success against Bud Norris, going 5-for-14 (.357 AVG) with three homeruns and nine RBIs.

EARLY SLATE

Dee Gordon has limited history against Sanchez, but is an on-base threat and has a stolen base in just three plate appearances against Sanchez.

DJ LeMahieu has been hot out of the gate, going 4-for-6 with a homer through the first two games against the D-Backs. He could continue that trend today, especially considering he is 8-for-22 (.364 AVG) with a homerun and two triples against Patrick Corbin

LATE GAMES

Brian Dozier may be able to take advantage of the wind that is blowing out at Camden Yards. He is 5-for-10 with two homers against Yovani Gallardo.

Daniel Murphy hit a big homer in his first game in a Nats uniform, and I wouldn't be surprised if he does it again tonight. He is 4-for-12 (.333 AVG) with a homerun against Bud Norris of the Braves.

EARLY SLATE

Kyle Seager seems to do wella against the majority of the Rangers pitching staff. He is 10-for-27 (.370 AVG) with 2 homers vs. Colby Lewis throughout his career.

Martin Prado was absolutely dreadful in the Spring, but he has an amazing BvP history against Anibal Sanchez, going 14-for-34 (.412 AVG) with a homer and ZERO strikeouts in 35 plate appearances.

Jake Lamb seems motivated to show that his big Spring wasn't a fluke. He has an 11-game hitting streak if you include his spring training games, and is swinging as hot a bat as anyone in the league.

LATE SLATE

Justin Turner’s splits suggests he actually prefers to bat against righties. In his last three seasons, he has put up a line of .320/.383/.485 against righties compared to .279/.345/.432 against lefties. Plus, he has a pretty solid history against Andrew Cashner, going 4-for-6 (.667 AVG) with two doubles.

David Freese faced Mike Leake a lot when he was with the Cardinals and Leake was with the Reds. He got the better of their matchup, going 8-for-16 with a homerun and four RBIs.

EARLY SLATE

Troy Tulowitzki is still too cheap throughout the industry to ignore, and even more so when he faces a lefty like Matt Moore.

Trevor Story has taken the world by storm. He has three homeruns after just two games in the big leagues. Yeah, he’s in play, and probably a bit of a must play in cash games.

LATE GAMES

Carlos Correa is an elite talent and absolutely ripped apart Michael Pineda the last time he faced him, with two doubles in three at-bats. He is properly priced throughout the industry, but it's still a reasonable.

Corey Seager continues to do well in the two-hole. He is coming off of a good game where he went 3-for-4 against the Padres last night at Petco, and has a good matchup tonight against Andrew Cashner.

EARLY SLATE

Jose Bautista is obviously known for his elite power, but he's also an OBP machine. He also gets a nice matchup today against Matt Moore, who he has gone 3-for-10 against with one homerun.

Ryan Braun isn't as dominate of a player if you want to compare him with his numbers in his steroid years, but he is still going to put up 25+ homers as long as he stays healthy. Today, you must consider the fact that he is 10-for-20 with three homeruns and ZERO strikeouts in 24 plate appearances vs. Jeff Samardzija.

Denard Span is another unsexy name, but he looks healthy and motivated in his new Giants uniform. Not much to go by, but he is 2-for-2 with a stolen base vs. Taylor Jungmann

Steve Pearce has been able to show off some big power throughout his career. He should get the start today against the southpaw, and is 7-for-19 (.368 AVG) with 3 homers and 9 RBIs in his career against J.A. Happ

LATE SLATE

Bryce Harper is in a class of his own. He doesn’t have much of a history against Bud Norris, but Norris struggles hard against left-handed hitters, allowing a line of .272/.355/.455 over his entire MLB career.

Yasiel Puig has always been a very streaky player. When he’s hot, he’s usually SCORCHING HOT. He’s still underpriced across the industry even though he has gone 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs in his first two games of the season.

Matt Holliday is more of a GPP play. Yes, Juan Nicasio had an amazing Spring, but considering his subpar numbers in the past, I'm going to have to see it to believe it. Only three previous at-bats for Holliday against Nicasio, but he does have two extra-base hits.

Melky Cabrera is one of those high floor/low ceiling players that are good to spread out in your cash games. He makes extremely good contact, and will definitely be under-the-radar going up against Sonny Gray (at least I think he is considering this is the third-day in a row he is listed as the starter at the time of my writing).

Be sure to keep an eye on the Fantasy Alarm Daily Lineups page to confirm that your players are starting.
