Even with the Buccaneers and Vikings game in the books (am I the only one that has a problem with these Thursday night games and how they mess up the competitive balance of the league?), there are still a ton of players worth looking at in the NFC for Week 8.BYE: Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati, HoustonDez Bryant always seems to be hit or miss, but he has scored five times in five career games against the Giants.Marques Colston has scored in 3-straight games (five total). Jimmy Graham has six TDs in his last eight games. The Broncos' pass defense has allowed 11 scores in six games this season so Drew Brees and company should have success.Victor Cruz has six touchdowns in his last four games. Hakeem Nicks has averaged 84 yards a game with four scores in six games against the Cowboys. The team from Dallas has a strong pass D this year though, third in the league at 187.3 yards a game and they've given up just seven passing scores in six games.Larry Fitzgerald has scored a touchdown in his last three matchups with the Niners. He also has 21 receptions and 315 yards.Matt Forte has run over the Panthers in his career with 463 yards and three scores in three games. Moreover, he's gone for more than 150 rushing yards the last two times he has faced them and that ankle of his is said to be at 100 percent.Frank Gore has seven scores and an average of 90 yards rushing per contest the last eight times he's faced the Cardinals.Casey Heyward of the Packers has four interceptions in his past three contests. The Jaguars have actually tossed only three interceptions this season, but it's not like they've been receiving strong QB play.Steven Jackson isn't getting as heavy a workload as he's used to but he's been effective when given the pigskin. He faces a Patriots team that is allowed the 14th most points to the running back position in PPR setups, so it's not exactly a wonderful matchup but it ain't bad either.
Everyone is panicked with Calvin Johnson cause he isn't scoring touchdowns. Has anyone bothered to notice he's on pace for 101 receptions, five more than last year, or that his pace of 1,580 yards would be one of the 20 best receiving seasons in history?James Jones had four receptions for 132 yards the only time he's faced the Jags in his career. Over his last four games he has scored a whopping six times, but he's also failed to record even 60 yards in any of the contests.Julio Jones simply kills it on the road. In 10 such games he's averaged 6.1 catches, 101.3 yards and 0.9 touchdowns (he's scored in each of his last five road games as well). The Eagles are a middle of the pack pass defense this year.Marshawn Lynch has run for 85 yards in 14 of his last 16 outings.Jeremy Maclin says his hip is healthy, and he's always enjoyed the matchup with the Falcons which has led him to 24 receptions, 414 yards and four scores... in just three games. He's also scored a touchdown or had 100 yards in five of his last seven games overall.Brandon Marshall is a WR1 in case you were wondering. He's scored in his last three games and has 25 catches for 363 yards in those three contests.Santana Moss has four touchdowns in his last five games as he continues to step up for the Redskins who are dealing with the loss of Pierre Garcon. Moss caught all of four touchdowns last season, and over a three year stretch from 2009-11 he averaged 4.3 scores a season. The Steelers have allowed 10 passing scores in six games though they permit just under 185 passing yards a week.Cam Newton threw for 374 yards and two scores against the Bears last season. The Bears are currently allowing 228 yards passing a game and have permitted only six passing scores in six games.Brandon Pettigrew caught seven passes for 70 yards an a score the last time he faced the Seahawks. The 'Hawks have allowed an average of 55 yards a game to the tight end this year while permitting only two scores in seven games.Tony Romo kills the Giants. He has a QB Rating of 121.3 over his last five games against them. In 11 career meetings he's thrown for an average of 254 yards a week with 2.36 touchdowns.Aldon Smith has 21.5 sacks in his last 22 games including six in his last six games against divisional opponents. He also has a sack in both of his career outings with the Cardinals. Teammate Justin Smith has four sacks and two forced fumbles in his last three games against the Cardinals.Steve Smith has a tough matchup with the Bears this week but he has killed the Monsters of the Midway in three career outings with 26 receptions and 447 yards.Matthew Stafford has thrown for 300-yards in three straight starts at home. Might be tough to get to four given that the Seahawks are allowing just 212 passing yards a game this season.Michael Turner ran for 114 yards an a score the last time he faced the Eagles. Over the last two weeks he's carried the balls 29 times for just 99 yards.Major Wright has three interceptions in his last four games and teammate Tim Jennings has five in seven games. Cam Newton has thrown six INTs in six games.RANDOM START OF THE WEEK(That one player you would never consider starting but for some reason he might be worth a look if you're desperate.)Chris Givens, WR, RamsA home run hitter, Givens has gone for 50 or more yards on a catch in each of his last four forays onto the field. On the year he is also averaging an impressive 27 yards a catch. With Danny Amendola still sidelined (I doubt he suits up this weekend), there are a ton of targets for Sam Bradford to spread around his offense. Bradford and Givens face a Patriots team that always puts up points, and that will likely cause the Rams to have to pass to keep up. Because the Pats are always up, they are passed against, a lot, and the result is the NFL's 4th worst pass defense (290 yards a game) while they have allowed an NFL worst 16 passing scores (the same number as the Titans and Redskins).Ray Flowers can be heard daily on Sirius/XM Radio on The Fantasy Drive on Sirius 210 and XM 87, Monday through Thursday at 7 PM EDT and Friday's at 9 PM EDT.
