Week 5 of the NFL season is upon us so it's time to take a look at the players who suit up for teams from the AFC that you should be focusing on for this week's contests.BYES: Cowboys, Lions, Raiders and BuccaneersGeno Atkins has three sacks in his past two games while teammate Carlos Dunlap has 15 sacks in his last 20 contests. Moreover, the Bengals lead the NFL with 17 sacks this year so Ryan Tannehill better have his head on a swivel. The Bills have two strong runners if they are healthy. Fred Jackson has run for 100 yards the last four times he has faced an NFC club, and C.J. Spiller is averaging 8.31 yards a carry this season. Too bad they face a Niners defense this week that is allowing just 79.5 yards on the ground through four games.Justin Blackmon caught six balls last week after hauling in a mere four balls in his first three NFL games. The Bears have allowed an average of 13.25 receptions a game to the wide receiver position, and since there really is no one else who can catch passes on this club... well, you know what I mean.Dwayne Bowe has scored three times while averaging 96.3 yards a contest the last three games. In his lone game against the Ravens in his career he also scored though he caught only four balls for 40 yards.Reggie Bush is averaging 5.1 yards a carry through 19 games with the Dolphins while he has averaged 92.3 yards a game this season. The Bengals haven't been very stout against runner this year as they've allowed the 7th most points to running backs on average through four games. The Chiefs are averaging 173.5 yards a game this season on the ground the most in the AFC. Amazingly, even with his massive 233 yard outing in Week 3, Jamaal Charles is averaging less YPC this season (5.8) than during his career (6.0). This weeks opponent, the Ravens, is allowing 94.5 yards a game on the ground at an average of 3.2 YPC.Andy Dalton has thrown for eight scores the past three weeks for the Cardinals with at least two scores in all three games. Only once as a rookie did he toss multiple scores in 3-straight weeks when he tossed two, three and two scores in Weeks 8-10. This week he's battling a Dolphins club that has allowed six passing scores in four games.Owen Daniels looked strong last weekend and he has recorded a score in each of his last two games. This week he faces a shaky Jets' defense that has actually been pretty tough on the tight end this season (they they are the 11th toughest D based on fantasy points allowed to the position).Joel Dreessen has scored a touchdown in each of his last two games. He also scored in his last game against the Pats as he caught six balls for 81 yards.Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown for an NFL leading 12 TD passes this season. That's the same total as Tom Brady (seven) and Carson Palmer (five) = combined. This week Fitzpatrick faces a Niner defense that has allowed only five passing scores in four games.Joe Flacco has led the Ravens offense to an average of 6.4 yards per play, the biggest total in the AFC. In his previous two outings against the Chiefs he's thrown for 572 yards and five touchdowns, and he's coming off of two games this season in which he has thrown for 382 and 356 yards.Arian Foster has gone for 102 and 100 yards in his last two games on MNF. The only time that he has faced the Jets he ran for 84 yards, caught passes for 59 more, and scored twice.Brian Hartline went bonkers for 12 receptions and 253 yards receiving, but don't overlook Davone Bess who has caught 12 balls for 209 yards the past two weeks.Maurice Jones-Drew has averaged 102.4 yards rushing per game over his last 10 outings, and since the start of the 2009 season he leads the NFL with 4,673 yard rushing. He's also run for at least 80 yards in five of his last six games in October. The Bears are currently allowing a mere 67.3 yards a game on the ground the third best mark in football at the quarter pole.Peyton Manning has lit up the Patriots for four passing scores each of the last two times he's faced off with the New England juggernaut.Robert Mathis has at least one sack in 6-straight games. Given how the Packers have protected Aaron Rodgers at times this season you have to like Mathis for extending that streak out to seven games.Trent Richardson has a rushing score in 3-straight games. He's also averaging 124.5 yards a game from scrimmage this season. The Giants run defense this year has been solid as they have permitted only one score to the running back position though they have allowed an average of 128 total yards per game to the running backs.Philip Rivers has had a disappointing start to the year but that should change this weekend. He faces a Saints club that he tossed 341 yards of passes and three scores against in their lone matchup. The Saints have also allowed the 5th most fantasy points through the air this season.Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for 659 yards, six scores and nary an interception in his last two games. He's also 13-1 in his career against the NFC. The Eagles meanwhile are 14-3 against the AFC in their past 17 games while they have allowed five passing scores while intercepting six passes this season.Matt Schaub is 8-0 with 12 TD passes and just two interceptions in his last eight games.Torrey Smith (ankle) should be fine this weekend which is bad news for the Chiefs given that Smith has caught 12 balls for 224 yards and three touchdowns the past two weeks. Wideouts have already scored five times in four games against the Chiefs this year.Ryan Tannehill threw for 431 yards last week, one behind that all-time rookie record set last year by Cam Newton. The Bengals are the 9th worst fantasy defense against passers so perhaps he will have more success this weekend (the Bengals have allowed six touchdowns through the air while only intercepting one pass).Mike Wallace has a score in 3-straight games. This week he takes on an Eagles squad that has allowed four scores to the wideout this season in four games. Teammate Heath Miller has also scored in 3-straight games. The Eagles have allowed only one score to the tight end this year.J.J. Watt is the first player in Texans history to begin a season with 4-straight games of at least 1.5 sacks. He's also the first NFL player to pull off the trick since Kevin Greene in 1998.Reggie Wayne has caught 13 balls for 208 the two times he has faced the Packers in his career. Given that Andrew Luck has thrown for 300 yards in two of his three starts this season it's a fair bet that the duo will have an effective outings in Week 5.Brandon Weeden has attempted 167 passes this season, the third highest total in football. However, thanks to a mere 53.9 percent completion percentage he's completed only 90 passes, just 12th in football. The Giants pass defense has allowed an average of 18.8 completions on 30 passes, a 62.5 completion percentage, for 254 yards a game this season. So much for Wes Welker being washed up. He's gone for eight catches and 100 yards in each of his last two games.Kendall Wright has a score in two of three games, and I bet most haven't noticed that.RANDOM START OF THE WEEK(That one player you would never consider starting but for some reason he might be worth a look if you're desperate.)Chaz Schilens, WR, JetsThat's right, I'm calling out Mr. Schilens as the out of nowhere add this week. Santonio Holmes is out for the season with his foot issue and the Jets just signed Jason Hill off the street. That means Chaz is not only likely to start in Week 5 but he will likely play a substantial portion of the Jets offensive snaps this week, that is if he can avoid coming down with some injury – far from a guarantee given his career. For what it's worth, the last two times that Schilens has faced the Jets he's done an end zone boogie.Ray Flowers can be heard daily on Sirius/XM Radio on The Fantasy Drive on Sirius 210 and XM 87, Monday through Thursday at 7 PM EDT and Friday's at 9 PM EDT.
