It's Week 3 so it's time to take a look at the players from the National Football Conference.Jared Allen had a sack an a forced fumble the last time he faced the Niners. He has 20.5 sacks in his last 16 games overall.Miles Austin has scored the last two times that he has faced the Bucs, and he has a touchdown reception in five of his last six games overall. Start him with confidence this weekend. Dez Bryant has been nowhere near that consistent, but he too had a touchdown grab in the last game against the Buccaneers.Jason Babin has nine sacks in his last seven games. The Cardinals better account for him on every play this week.Drew Brees has thrown for 300-yards in 9-straight games, the longest streak in league history. He faces a Chiefs club that has allowed just 235 passing yards a game this season. Still, they have allowed an average of 37.5 points a game and they have also permitted five passing scores through two weeks.
For Michael Bush the magic number is 25. If he touches the ball 25 times his teams are 5-0 as he has run for an average of 137 yards a game in those contests. He's also rushed for six scores in those games.Jermichael Finley seems to really like playing on Monday Night Football. In his last four games on MNF he has caught 25 balls for 389 yards and three scores.Larry Fitzgerald caught just one pass in Week 2. While logic alone dictates that he will see a massive increase in workload this week, history also supports it. In his last four outings against the Eagles he he hauled in 26 balls for 456 yards an eight, eight, touchdowns.Pierre Garcon killed it for a quarter against the Saints catching four passes for 109 yards an a score. He didn't play in Week 2, but it sounds like he could be active in Week 3. If he has he might just have a solid matchup given that he caught eight balls the last time he faced the Bengals. His teammate, Santana Moss, caught seven balls for 72 yards an a score the last time he faced the Bengals.Tony Gonzalez has caught 26 balls for 315 yards and three scores the last three times he has faced the Chargers.Frank Gore has scored a touchdown in five of his last six games. The Vikings have allowed zero scores to the running back position through two games, and they have allowed the 4th fewest fantasy points to the runner this season.Steven Jackson might to play this weekend, though he might also be in a timeshare situation. Too bad too since he has produced two scores and 260 yards from scrimmage in two career meetings with the Bears.Vincent Jackson is averaging 18.1 yards a catch since 2008, the most in football for a player who has caught at least 200 balls. In his last game against the Cowboys he averaged 17.1 yards as he made seven receptions for 120 yards an a score.Tim Jennings has four interceptions in his last three games, including at least one in each of those contests. Sam Bradford better watch out.
The last three times the best wideout in football, Calvin Johnson, has faced an AFC squad he has produced 19 receptions for 441 yards and four scores. This week figures to be a somewhat difficult matchup as the Titans are currently the third stingiest defense in allowing fantasy points to the wide receiver.Chris Long has 10 sacks in his past 12 games for the Rams. He also has sacks the last two times he has faced the Bears. Cortland Finnegan has a sack in the only game in which he faced the Bears. Their teammate, Robert Quinn, also has a sack in two straight games.Marshawn Lynch ran for 122 yards last week and has now run for 100 yards in each of his last six home games, a team record. He plays this week at home against the Packers.Clay Matthews has 2.5 and 3.5 sacks in his two contests this season, quite the impressive start to the season after his down 2011 that resulted in six sacks, the same total he has already this season.Cam Newton threw for 253 yards with a 129.2 QB Rating with 70 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Saints in Week 2. He is only the second QB ever to go 250-125-70-1 in a game (the other was Michael Vick). Of course, he threw for no scores and ran for just six yards in Week 3.Christian Ponder leads the NFL with a 75.8 percent completion percentage, and he's posted a QB Rating in the triple-digits each of his first two games. In fact, his QB Rating of 110.6 is sixth best in the league (Matt Ryan leads the way at 117.6).Aaron Rodgers has thrown for only 445 yards and three touchdowns in two matchups with the Seahawks.Tony Romo destroys the Bucs. In his last three games against them he has completed 71 percent of his passes for 908 yards, 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He's also thrown for at least three scores in each of those outings. Yeah, he's a strong start this week.Alex Smith has thrown 216-straight passes without an interception, the longest streak in Niners history. He's also led the club to 16 victories in 19 games. The Vikings have allowed the 12th most fantasy points to the quarterback this season in what sounds like a solid matchup on paper for Mr. Smith.Darren Sproles went for 53 rushing yards and 51 receiving the last time he faced the Chiefs, one of three times in his career that he has gone for 50/50 in the same game.Matthew Stafford has thrown for 14 touchdowns and just one interception in his last four outings against AFC opponents. This week he faced a Titans club that has allowed an average of 248 passing yards through two weeks while permitting five TD passes.Pierre Thomas ran all over the Panthers last week forcing 12 missed tackles on his 13 touches. Thomas racked up 143 yards of offense in the game as he made fools of the Panthers. This week he faces a Chiefs club that he produced 144 yards from scrimmage (88 rush, 56 receiving) in his lone meeting against them.Mike Williams has a touchdown in each of his first two outings this year. At the same time he has five catches for 71 yards through two weeks. He's not going to continue to score on forty percent of his receptions. Through two games the Cowboys have yet to allow a touchdown to the wide receiver.Patrick Willis has a forced fumble and has recorded 18 tackles in the Niners last two games against the Vikings.RANDOM START OF THE WEEK(That one player you would never consider starting but for some reason he might be worth a look if you're desperate.)Brandon Gibson, WR, RamsGibson has caught a touchdown pass in each of his last two games, and his QB, Sam Bradford, has a QB Rating of 100 in each of his two appearances this season The duo will look to attach a Bears club that is currently the 12th worst in terms of fantasy points allowed to the wide receiver position.Ray Flowers can be heard daily on Sirius/XM Radio on The Fantasy Drive on Sirius 210 and XM 87, Monday through Thursday at 7 PM EDT and Friday's at 9 PM EDT.
