Another week of exciting fantasy contests on Boom that we can’t wait for. With the NBA finals in full swing, well kind of almost over, Boom Fantasy has been hosting some massive GPP tournaments. But with no NBA on the agenda for Thursday night, we take a look at Boom’s big baseball tournaments.
The first question on tonight’s slate is who will have more hits between Eric Hosmer and Carlos Correa? The obvious answer is Correa, but we always have to remember that taking the underdog on Boom is a massive advantage on the field if we get it right. In this case, the points we would accumulate for each are virtually the same. Hosmer has the tougher matchup, but Lance McCullers has been vulnerable on the road and Hosmer has been a notoriously good hitter in Kansas City.
The next few questions are four-pronged attacks, starting with the most hits between Charlie Blackmon, Jose Altuve, Ender Inciarte and Lorenzo Cain. Like we touched on in the last question, the eye test tells us not to choose a Royal, but the stats confirm McCullers is a different pitcher away from home. Blackmon is “the favorite” but isn’t playing at Coors, so he’s definitely not a lock. Not only is Altuve facing a stinker in Jason Hammel, but he’s hitting .422 on the road. Inciarte is also interesting playing at SunTrust park, which has quickly become one of the more hitter-friendly parks in the league.
Question three involves four of the leagues premier run-producers in Kris Bryant, George Springer, Nolan Arenado and Mark Reynolds. This is extremely tough to pick from, so going matchup-based like you would in all DFS formats will ultimately make the decision easier. If we’re going matchup based, Springer is your favorite, followed by Bryant, Arenado and Reynolds.
Same format for question four as it was for question three, but with much different names. You wouldn’t expect guys like Yuli Gurriel, Maikel Franco and Brandon Phillips to be in an RBI question with someone of Anthony Rizzo’s stature but Rizzo hasn’t been the same player in 2017 as he’s been in years past. Rizzo is the clear-cut favorite of the group and is the most illustrious run producer of the bunch, so he’s your cash-type play of the group. Gurriel is the sneakiest of the bunch, hitting .314 against RHP and gets a plus matchup versus Hammel.
The last four questions are all one-player ones, starting with how many extra base-hit games will Matt Kemp have? Over the first two months of the season, Kemp looked like the guy who once finished second in an MVP race. He’s taken a small step back in June as he’s posted just five hits in 28 at-bats. That being said, Kemp matches up with a rookie making his second career start. How many total bases will Mike Moustakas have is next on our list. We’ve harped on the underrated matchup KC has tonight and things don’t change in this spot. Moose has six career ABs against McCullers and he has a home run. He’s also hit .297 and posted a .925 OPS against RHP.
The final two questions flip over to the pitchers side of the ball. Both questions are asking about total numbers of strikeouts both Jon Lester and McCullers will have. Lester is averaging 5.5 strikeouts per game but has the better matchup in terms of strikeouts as the Rockies have K’d the eighth most in baseball, while the Royals have struck out the sixth fewest. McCullers is obviously has the greater strikeout potential as he’s posted a 10.5 K/9 on the year.
It’s going to be another great night on Boom, so don’t miss out!
