As I began diving into today’s MLB contests on Boom Fantasy’s featured page I stopped. I stopped because I noticed NBA tournaments that were starting up in three days and I was convinced it was just a glitch. That is until I saw they have tournaments for Ice Cube’s “Big 3” basketball league that starts up this weekend! Where the hell else are you going to find fantasy formats that offer us that?! NOWHERE! Anyways, let’s dive into the main baseball slate for Thursday evening!
Question one asks us who will have more hits between Ender Inciarte and Jose Ramirez. Inciarte has had a very nice year as he’s hitting .307, but Jose Ramirez is on a different planet right now. Matter of fact, Inciarte has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games while Ramirez has two hits or more in nine straight games. And Inciarte is the favorite in this question!
Next, two more players are added making it a four-player question. Staying on the hit topic, the players included are Starlin Castro, Matt Kemp, Adam Jones and Kris Bryant, who happen to be the underdog. Bryant – last years MVP – obviously possesses the most upside, but he’s mired in a bad slump, so the price is justified. That being said, if you’re a GPP player, he’d easily be your favorite play out of the four. Castro is your safest bet as he has the most hits out of all the options on the year.
Question number three includes Aaron Judge at home, so we should just leave it at that. But between Marcell Ozuna, Manny Machado and Buster Posey, will any of them drive in more runs than Judge on Thursday? Machado has nine RBI over his last nine games while Posey has none over his last six contests. Ozuna could be the wildcard, as he only has two fewer RBI on the year than Judge does.
Yankees’ keep showing up in these questions, but maybe for good reason and they’re implied to score the seventh most runs according to Vegas throughout the entire 12-game day, including both the early and main slates. That said, Justin Bour is the favorite to drive in the most runs in this question, over Yankee Matt Holiday, Edwin Encarnacion and Yunel Escobar. Encarnacion has been on fire of late, driving in 12 runs just over his last seven days. Holliday happened to go deep on Wednesday night as well, so a lot of tough decisions to be made for this question.
The final four questions are all single bullets, which in my opinion are the toughest ones Boom has to offer. First, we’re asked how many extra-base hits Giancarlo Stanton have. If it were a lefty opposing him, I’d say skys the limit, but versus a RHP we have to do our research. He’s 2-for-8 off of Cubs starter Jake Arrieta over their careers and he’s hit righties at a mere .267 clip as opposed to .317 versus southpaws on the year.
Question six goes back to the well, the Yankees well that is, and is about Gary Sanchez’s total bases. Over his last 10 games he has 15 hits, seven going for extra-bases, four leaving
the yard and he’s also scored 11 runs. Sanchez is in the same type of groove he was in last season, but because Aaron Judge has taken the league by storm this current streak he’s on has flown way more under the radar.
The final two questions have to do with strikeouts and they ask us about arguably the two best pitchers on the main slate in Luis Severino and Jake Arrieta. Although Arrieta hasn’t been the same pitcher this year as he’s been in years past, a vast majority of the fantasy industry thinks he’s going to turn it around at some point. Arrieta has struggled and yet has still posted a 9.89 K/9 rate on the year. Boom is setting the mark at six, which is fair seeing how Miami has struck out the 11th fewest amount of times per game on the year. Finally we have Luis Severino who has missed bats at an insane rate this year. Severino is striking people out at a 27.7-percent clip on the year and gets to face an Angels team that doesn’t strike us an imposing.
