10-Team Leagues

Steven Souza Jr. (TB - OF): Why is a guy that is a Top 20 outfielder coming in around 70% owned? Souza has set career high’s in HR’s, Runs, and RBI’s and there’s still two months of baseball left. He missed two games this past week with an injury, but he returned to the lineup on Thursday night and hit a home run so it’s safe to assume he’s perfectly fine. The Rays are currently still in the playoff hunt and will definitely need Souza at his healthiest down the stretch.

German Marquez (COL - SP): Marquez is currently about 40-45% owned so he should be available in your 10-team league. He appears in the SP Streamers piece in Week 19, but it might not be a bad idea to hang on to him past his next start. From April 25th to July 7th he averaged 7.90 K/9. That’s okay, but since the All-Star break he’s been a K-machine with 11.14 K/9. 57% of his strikeouts have come on his curveball. Bud Black was even quoted as saying he’s seen some pretty funny swings from the opposition against Marquez. In his last 4 starts he has a 3.38 ERA with a 3.03 FIP. Yes it’s worrisome that he pitches in Coors Field, but he’s been rolling lately and he’s worth grabbing in shallower leagues.

Rafael Devers (BOS – 3B): It was concerning a little bit for Devers, not because of his bat, but because the Red Sox went out and acquired Eduardo Nunez. Boston’s found a way to work both guys into their lineup especially with Dustin Pedroia dealing with injuries. Devers is available in about 50-60% of leagues so if he’s out there and you need corner infield help go grab him. He’s hitting .389 with a ridiculous .694 SLG%. Sure there’s some regression in line, but the Sox offense has been better with Devers and Nunez in the lineup.

12-Team Leagues

Amed Rosario (NYM - SS): Rosario is currently around 40% owned and this is kind of like last call at the bar. His ownership is spiking, especially now that he’s actually playing. He’s the Mets top prospect and will see plenty of opportunities at the plate the rest of the way. He has potential to be this season’s Trea Turner. Sure he’s struck out 6 times in 4 games, but there’s a learning curve with young players. He offers solid contact with stolen base potential. Grab him while you can because he likely won’t be on your waiver wire for long.

Colin McHugh (HOU - SP): McHugh, like Marquez, is a guy that also appears in this coming week’s SP Streamers piece. He’s currently about 30-40% owned so there’s a good chance he’s available in your 12-team league. He had a rough debut to 2017, but in his last two starts he’s gone 6 innings in each game with 13 K’s and he’s given up just 2 earned runs. He has a very favorable matchup next week against a weak White Sox lineup and if he does well expect his ownership to spike. Go get him.

Joey Gallo (TEX – 1B, 3B): This is somewhat bold because Gallo WILL KILL YOU WITH K’S. He strikes out 38.6% of the time, but depending on the site you play on his ownership fluctuates from 30-50%. He’s finding his power groove again. Since July 19th he has 8 HR’s to bring his season total to 29. He’s hit .286 over that time frame with a .352 OBP. Now he’s still hitting right around .200 on the season, but his power potential is worth the pickup in categories leagues, but the strikeouts present some risk in points leagues.

15-Team Leagues

Cesar Hernandez (PHI – 2B): Hernandez’s ownership is somewhere around 30% so he very well could be an option your league. He came back from injury a few weeks ago and since July 19th he’s slashing .375/.452/.531 with a .423 wOBA. There’s some regression in line, but it’s clear the injury isn’t a concern anymore. He’s also stolen 6 bases since coming back so he can really help out with any offensive category outside of power.

Luis Castillo (CIN – SP): Castillo has made numerous appearances in the Streamers article, but he’s had some struggles lately that have knocked his ownership down that could make him available in your deeper league. Currently its around 25-35%. This guy has some awesome potential in the strikeout department. He’s had some tough matchups but this weekend he faces the Cardinals at home on Saturday, and then next week he gets a start against the woeful Padres lineup. He features a high-90’s fastball and could be a nice value this late in the season.

Manuel Margot (SD – OF): Margot is still under 25-30% owned depending on the site you play on and you need to be grabbing him now because his ownership has spiked about 10% over the last 24 hours on most sites. Over the last 10 days he’s slashing .375/.364/.875 with a .494 wOBA. He hasn’t drawn a walk at all so that’s why the OBP is less than his batting average. Obviously the slugging percentage will come down, but the 4 home runs in that span are very appealing. He’s worth grabbing in deeper leagues as well as formats where you start 4-5 outfielders as he also helps out with some steals.
