Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners Predictions: Thursday, September 11th
Entering Thursday, the Seattle Mariners are 1 game back of the Astros in the AL West and currently holding the third AL Wild Card spot. Tonight presents an opportunity to continue their 5-game winning streak against the Los Angeles Angels. Let’s back the home favorites in this divisional matchup.Â
Mariners starter Bryce Miller looked shaky in his first two starts after coming off the IL, but he’s calmed down since. The right-hander tossed 6 strong innings with just 2 hits and 2 runs allowed against Cleveland, and then he allowed 2 runs over 5.1 solid innings against Atlanta. Both of those outings came on the road, too.Â
Now at home today, Miller can post another good start. The Angels have subpar numbers vs. righties over the past two weeks, with a .293 wOBA (24th in MLB), 84 wRC+ (24th), and 28.3% K rate (29th). Yes, Miller’s 5.53 ERA and 5.23 FIP this season are bleak. However, his past two starts are a good reminder of how effective he can be. This is still the same guy who had a 2.94 ERA last year, including a 1.96 ERA at home.Â
On the other side, bank on the Mariners providing run support against Angels starter Jose Soriano. The righty just coughed up 8 runs over 2.1 innings last time out. He’s now allowed 5+ runs in half of his past 6 starts. There are some scoreless outings mixed in there, but he’s been way too up and down to trust.Â
Soriano has a 4.68 ERA and 4.38 FIP over his past 11 starts now, including a 5.87 ERA over his past 6 outings. He’ll now face a hot Seattle offense that’s crushing right-handers. Over the past week in the split, the Mariners have a .403 wOBA (1st in MLB), 167 wRC+ (1st), and .949 OPS (1st). It’s also a top-10 lineup vs. righties over the past two weeks (.339 wOBA, 123 wRC+).Â
Back Seattle on the runline at home. The Mariners are 16-3 over their last 19 home games, with 10 of those wins coming by 2+ runs. They’re also 44-27 at home overall this season.Â

Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Guardians Predictions: Thursday, September 11th
This week’s series between the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians has been a fun one. The divisional rivals are both fighting for the third AL Wild Card spot as the regular season winds down. Let’s get some action on Thursday’s finale of a four-game series.Â
Cleveland starter Gavin Williams has been dominating lately, with a 2.19 ERA over his last 9 starts since the All-Star break. That includes a 1.99 ERA over his past 4 outings. Going back even further, the Guardians’ right-hander boasts a 2.57 ERA over his past 17 starts with 2 or fewer earned runs in 11 of those. It’s an impressive stretch with only a couple of hiccups mixed in.Â
Williams brings in a 3.00 ERA at home this year, including a 2.30 ERA over his past 8 home starts. He’s also previously owned the Royals, with a 2.27 ERA in 7 career starts against them. As for the KC offense, it has below-average numbers vs. right-handed pitching over the past two weeks, with a .290 wOBA (26th in MLB) and 80 wRC+ (28th).Â
Meanwhile, Royals starter Stephen Kolek can also limit the Cleveland lineup. He’s looked good in his two starts with KC since being traded from the Padres. The righty has allowed just 3 runs over 13 combined innings in those outings – against a pair of divisional opponents, too (Detroit & Minnesota).Â
Kolek was previously shaky with San Diego, but a recent stint at Triple-A appears to have rectified some issues. Cleveland has been better offensively lately, though it still has poor splits vs. righties over the past month. Since August 11th vs. right-handers, the Guardians have a .268 wOBA (30th in MLB), 69 wRC+ (30th), .214 BA (29th), and 25.0% K rate (26th).Â
It’s a good spot for Kolek, who has a 2.41 ERA on the road this season. It also helps that the Royals’ bullpen has an impressive 2.64 FIP in September. On that note, Cleveland’s relievers have a 2.43 FIP this month. Both starters and pens should keep this one low-scoring.Â
