Miami Marlins vs. Cincinnati Reds Predictions: Thursday, July 10th
The Miami Marlins are one of the hottest teams in baseball, winning 12 of their last 16 games coming into today. They wrap up a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds in an intriguing Thursday matchup. Miami could win again, but we’re looking at the total for this game.
Reds starter Nick Lodolo has been up and down this season with a 3.58 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. Lately, he’s been pitching well though. The left-hander owns a 2.91 ERA over his past four starts. Besides one bad outing at Cleveland a month ago, Lodolo also has a 3.05 ERA over his previous 10 other starts.Â
Lodolo has also been effective at home recently, despite pitching in the Reds’ hitter-friendly park. He has a 2.91 ERA over his last four home starts. Notably, Cincy’s southpaw boasts an elite 5.2% walk rate (90th percentile) and 32.3% chase rate (88th) this season. That usually allows him to keep opposing lineups in check.Â
Miami has been dangerous offensively lately, but it’s also struggled against left-handed pitching. Over the past two weeks vs. lefties, the Marlins have a .185 batting average (28th in MLB), .269 wOBA (27th), 70 wRC+ (26th), and 27.2% K rate (27th). It’s also a good time to sell high on an offense that’s likely been overperforming.Â
On the other side, Marlins starter Cal Quantrill has a shaky 5.40 ERA and 1.43 WHIP this season. Honestly, we usually like to fade this guy as much as possible. Yet, today presents an opportunity for a decent outing from the Miami right-hander.Â
The Reds have one of the league’s worst offenses against right-handed pitchers right now. Over the past week vs. righties, they have a .177 BA (29th in MLB), .227 wOBA (29th), and 36 wRC+ (29th). Over the past three weeks in the split, Cincinnati has a .222 BA (26th), .273 wOBA (29th), and 67 wRC+ (29th).Â
It’s a good spot for Quantrill, who’s actually been a bit better than his 5.40 ERA indicates. First, his 4.39 FIP is a full run lower while his .330 BABIP suggests some unluckiness. He’s also allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his last nine starts. It helps that Cincy is averaging just 2.4 runs over the past five games.Â
Plus, once Quantrill exits, we can trust Miami’s bullpen to hold down the latter innings. The Marlins’ relief corps owns a league-best 1.89 ERA over the past two weeks and an impressive 2.78 ERA over the past month. Take the under for the full game and first five innings.Â

Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels Predictions: Thursday, July 10th
The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels wrap up their four-game series today. Los Angeles has won two of the first three games so far. Let’s break down this AL West matchup with the visiting Rangers owning some key edges on Thursday.Â
Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz has a rough 5.42 ERA and 1.55 WHIP this season. He’s posted some decent outings lately, but still has a 4.88 ERA over his past five starts and a 5.49 ERA since the beginning of May. The right-hander’s 5.31 ERA and 5.05 FIP at home don’t offer much confidence either. Â
Kochanowicz also has many underwhelming advanced metrics that make him fadeable. Among qualified pitchers, he ranks in the bottom 14% in hard-hit rate, bottom 6% in average exit velo, and bottom 16% in xBA. Then there’s his 15.5% strikeout rate (5th percentile), 10.5% walk rate (19th), and 21.1% whiff rate (21st).Â
In simpler terms, Kochanowicz is allowing a ton of hard contact while not missing many bats – and giving up too many free passes. Now he has to face a Texas offense that’s crushing right-handers lately. Over the past week, the Rangers have a .364 wOBA (6th in MLB), .286 BA (5th), .838 OPS (7th), and 136 wRC+ (6th) vs. righties. They also had a low 16.9% K rate (4th) with a 9.2% walk rate (9th) against right-handers in the last week.Â
As the Rangers provide run support, let’s bank on Patrick Corbin to do just enough against the Angels’ offense. That may seem like a crazy proposition, but the veteran has actually been better than you’d think. His 4.18 ERA and 1.29 WHIP aren’t too impressive, yet some underlying metrics are encouraging.Â
Corbin’s 38.3% hard-hit rate allowed, 6.7% walk rate, and .258 batting average against are his lowest since 2018, 2020, and 2019, respectively. Despite being one of the league’s worst starting pitchers in recent years, he’s actually decent enough to trust at times.Â
Today presents one of those opportunities. The Angels have struggled against left-handed pitching all season with a .216 BA (29th in MLB), .284 wOBA (25th), and 28.0% strikeout rate (30th) in the split. Over the past two weeks, LA’s offense has a .207 BA, .279 wOBA, and 28.2% K rate vs. lefties.Â
Corbin just had a good start on the road at San Diego, allowing two runs over six solid innings. Though he posted a shaky 5.28 ERA in the month of June, he also had a 3.39 FIP in that same stretch. He’s been more productive than the on-field results sometimes show. Plus, behind Corbin, the Texas bullpen owns a 2.52 ERA over the past week.Â
