Minnesota Twins vs. Miami Marlins Predictions: Tuesday, July 1st
Let’s lead off our MLB picks with an interleague matchup between the Minnesota Twins and Miami Marlins. At first glance, the road Twins may seem like the better pick today. However, we’re going in the opposite direction with some value on the home squad.Â
The Marlins are surging right now with a current seven-game winning streak. They’re also 12-4 over the last 16 games entering today. Meanwhile, the Twins are 18-27 on the road this season and 2-8 over their last 10 road games. Minnesota is just 4-13 in the past 17 games overall.Â
Miami starter Edward Cabrera was shaky earlier this season, but he’s been very effective over the past two months. The right-hander owns a 2.25 ERA over his past eight starts with the Marlins going 6-2 in those games. He also has a 2.38 ERA over his last four home outings.Â
The Minnesota offense can be dangerous at times, but let’s back Cabrera in this spot. Over the past week, the Twins are batting just .216 against right-handed pitching (26th in MLB) with a league-average .304 wOBA in the split. They’re also averaging 3.8 runs over their last nine road games.Â
Joe Ryan will start for Minnesota, which is normally a good thing. The righty boasts a 2.86 ERA and 0.89 WHIP this season. It’s definitely risky to fade Ryan, but we have an opportunity to do so today in a tough road matchup.Â
Miami boasts a top-tier offense against right-handers over the past two weeks with a .350 wOBA (5th in MLB), 122 wRC+ (7th), .286 BA (3rd), and .804 OPS (5th). The Marlins are also averaging 7.4 runs per game during their current win streak. The lineup is quietly rolling right now.Â
As for Ryan, he did just toss six shutout innings at home against the Mariners last time out. Yet, over his previous four starts, Ryan had a 4.43 ERA with 11 walks issued in 22.1 innings. His 3.77 FIP and 3.85 xFIP on the road this year are also much higher than his 2.87 road ERA.Â
Take the Marlins as home underdogs for the full game and first five innings. Miami also has an advantage in the late innings as Minnesota has a league-worst 7.07 bullpen ERA over the past two weeks. Conversely, the Marlins have a 2.62 ERA as a pen in the same timespan.Â

Los Angeles Angels vs. Atlanta Braves Predictions: Tuesday, July 1st
The Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves start up their mid-week series tonight. The starting pitching matchup for this opener points to plenty of runs being scored. Let’s target a higher-scoring game with our MLB picks.Â
Braves rookie Didier Fuentes has looked shaky in his first two big-league starts. The 20-year-old allowed 4 runs on 6 hits to the Marlins and then 6 runs on 8 hits to the Mets. He’s also struck out just four batters in 8.1 combined innings.Â
Until we see him prove it in the majors, Fuentes is safe to fade right now. He had a 4.81 ERA across nine minor-league starts before being called up. It’s fair to wonder how long he’ll stick in the Atlanta rotation, and another poor outing today could come today.Â
The Angels are crushing right-handed pitching over the past week with a .404 wOBA (2nd in MLB), 163 wRC+ (2nd), .942 OPS (2nd), and .265 ISO (4th) in the split. The LA offense is also averaging 6.8 runs per game over the past eight contests. The lineup is underrated without big names (besides Mike Trout), but it’s on fire right now – led by a scorching hot Jo Adell.Â
On the other side, Tyler Anderson toes the rubber for Los Angeles. The veteran southpaw started this season strong, but negative regression has caught up with him. He has a 6.47 ERA over his past eight starts and a 6.93 ERA over his last five outings.Â
Anderson has also been much worse on the road this year. He has a 6.26 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and .385 wOBA allowed in eight road starts compared to a 2.66 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and .278 wOBA allowed in eight home starts. The lefty has given up 4+ runs and 7+ hits in five straight road outings as well.Â
Though Atlanta has been inconsistent offensively lately, let’s fade Anderson on the road here. The Braves should wake back up after being mostly quieted by the Phillies’ pitching staff over the weekend. They’re still averaging 5.1 runs per game over the last 10 home games.Â
