Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers NLCS Game 2 Predictions: Tuesday, October 14th
Instead of picking a side in this one, let’s look at the total and bank on another low-scoring game. Yoshinobu Yamamoto starts for Los Angeles, and Freddy Peralta toes the rubber for Milwaukee. This pair of starters should limit the runs and scoring chances early, while the bullpens can hold it down late.Â
Yamamoto is coming off a shaky outing against the Phillies in the NLDS, allowing 3 runs and 6 hits over 4 innings before getting pulled. However, the Dodgers’ right-hander is primed to bounce back. He had an elite 1.13 ERA over his final 6 regular-season starts, before tossing 6.2 innings with 2 unearned runs in the Wild Card against Cincinnati.Â
Yamamoto was excellent all year for Los Angeles. He had a 2.49 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over 30 starts in the regular season. That includes a 2.13 ERA over 18 road starts. He’s also allowed 2 runs or fewer in 7 of his last 9 road outings. The Japanese righty also now boasts a 2.05 ERA over his past 6 postseason starts, going back to last year.Â
In today’s matchup, Yamamoto can quiet the Milwaukee offense. The Brewers managed just 2 hits and a lone ninth-inning run in Game 1. They’re also now averaging 1.8 runs per game over the past four playoff games, going back to the NLDS. Plus, after Yamamoto, the Dodgers’ bullpen is well-rested and in a good spot following Snell’s strong start last night.Â
On the other side, Peralta can hold his own as well. He had a 2.70 ERA in the regular season, including a dominant 1.77 ERA at home. The Brewers’ right-hander was up-and-down in a pair of NLDS starts against the Cubs, allowing 5 runs over 9.2 innings. Despite those shaky results, he’s now on full rest and gets to pitch at home here.Â
Peralta has allowed 2 earned runs or fewer in 15 of his 18 home starts overall this year. Milwaukee’s ace also boasts an elite 1.21 ERA over his past 6 home outings. Peralta faced the Dodgers at home earlier this season and tossed 6 scoreless innings. Plus, he owns a 3.29 ERA across 8 career starts against LA.Â
After Peralta, the strong Brewers bullpen can also be trusted. The unit owned a 1.20 ERA across 5 games vs. Chicago in the NLDS. Meanwhile, the Dodgers' offense has underperformed lately. In Game 1 of this series, they scattered 7 hits but only scored 2 runs. One of those came on a solo shot by Freddie Freeman while the lineup stranded 11 runners on base. The Dodgers also just batted .199 with a .557 OPS against the Phillies in the NLDS.Â
Let’s take the under for the full game and first five innings. Plus, take the over on Yamamoto’s outs and hits allowed props. The Dodgers can afford a long leash on their starter after winning Game 1, especially to save bullpen arms for later games in the series. Plus, as good as Yamamoto has been, he’s actually allowed 4+ hits in 10 of his last 13 starts. The Brewers can get some hits, but may not do much with them.Â
