And just like that, the MLB Best Bets and Betting Picks are back on top.  We opened the season like the Tampa Bay Rays, turning a profit for the first 12 days of the 2023 MLB season, but in the realm of “you can’t win ‘em all,” we hit a minor bump in the road. We had two-straight losing days and trimmed a little off our bankroll but bounced back in style, winning two of our bets, one with plus-odds. So thank you Sonny Gray and the Twins and, believe it or not, thank you, Oakland. As I’ve said before – it’s a process. You don’t just Google “best bets for today” and expect to win. We’ll have our ups and downs as it is truly a very long season.

  • Yesterday’s Record: 2-1

Short slate today but there are still a couple of games I like.

MLB Best Bets for April 13

Oakland Athletics at Baltimore Orioles

Anyone who has tailed my betting picks or even my DFS plays knows I love joking around about the revenge-game narrative. I talk about it as if it’s truth, but it’s always more tongue-in-cheek. I feel like I have to say that here because sarcasm rarely plays in the written word and I’m all-in for Cole Irvin’s big revenge-game against his former team. Well, sort of. Irvin had some rough outings against the Yankees and Red Sox to start, but now gets a much softer match-up with the A’s who have just a .302 wOBA with a 22-perent K-rate against southpaws. He’s not going to shut them down, but he’s also not going to get blasted. It’s the same for Oakland pitcher Adam Oller who won’t shut down the Orioles bats, but we usually see players a little more sluggish in a day game that follows a night game. I know the pitchers aren’t great, but I still think the game total is a little too high.

Pick: Athletics/Orioles under 10 runs (-110 on Caesar’s Sportsbook)

Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals

There’s a lot going on in this game, most notably rookie Jordan Walker looking to set the all-time MLB record for starting his career with a 13-game hitting streak. Yesterday in the ninth inning he tied the 111-year record set in 1912 by Eddie Murphy and looks to break it today at home. Fortunately, he gets Vince Velasquez who is one of my favorite pitchers to pick on. In two starts, he’s allowed eight earned runs over 7.1 innings and that 2.18 WHIP is pretty gross. The Cardinals have the sixth-highest wOBA against righthanded pitching (.349) and they’re making a ton of contact. That doesn’t bode well for Pittsburgh, especially when they’re taking their .312 wOBA against southpaws to face Jordan Montgomery who is coming off seven scoreless innings against Milwaukee. There’s no value on the money line, but given the match-up and what’s at stake for St. Louis, I’ll back them on the run line even at home.

Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -1.5 run line (-125 on BetMGM)
