League of Legends European Championship

Summer Split / July 30th, 2022

The tension within the LEC is about an thick as it has ever been. We are in Week 6 and the middle/bottom tier teams are still scoring upsets against the top teams in the league. The MAD Lions have found themselves with a one game lead in the standings as the top team after the Rogue loss on Friday. Fnatic, who was one win away from making the LEC Spring Finals, is on a 5 game losing streak and on the outside of the playoff bubble. To make this dash to the playoffs even more thrilling, the third place team only holds a two game advantage over the ninth place team, meaning everyone still has a shot to make that late season push! Let’s dive in!

League of Legends DFS Fantasy Breakdown

Game #1: SK Gaming v Misfits

Game Breakdown: Both of these teams are coming off of upset wins on Friday but the win for Misifits was significantly more impressive with a scrappy showdown against Rogue. The biggest wrinkle for the new Misfits success is their adc (Neon) has started to show up. He has 43 kills (same as Vetheo) and a 3.8 KDA. In the Spring Split, Vetheo had carried the entirety of this team but we are seeing more of a team game now. SK has had peaks and valleys of success this split but they struggle to put together strong team fights in the late game. Expect the game to be slower through the first 15 minutes but pick up pace as Misfits begin to group.

Favorite Picks: Vetheo (MSF: $11,400/$7,600), Neon (MSF: $7,000)

Value Picks: JNX (SK: $6,000), Treatz (SK: $4,600)

Cann’s Match Pick: Misfits

Game #2: Rogue v Astralis

Game Breakdown: The loss that Rogue suffered on Friday happens. The issue with the LEC/LCS series set up is the fact that they play best-of-one style and that limits teams and their approach to the game. You have no room for error as well as punishes you for trying new things in draft. RGE Is the better team today and it isn’t very close. I think Xerxe is probably a top 5 jungler but into a lineup of player who all can win their lane with little help from Malrang, his impact is significantly less.

Favorite Picks: Larssen (RGE: $12,000/$8,000), Comp (RGE: $7,800), Odoamne (RGE: $7,000)

Value Picks: Xerxe (AST: $6,200), Kobbe (AST: $6,600)

Cann’s Match Pick: Rogue

Game #3: MAD Lions v Excel Esports

Game Breakdown: You could make the argument that this could be a close match and it very well might be. Unfortunately I don’t see XL to have the same consistency as I do the MAD Lions. Both teams are similar in the fact that they have a lynchpin player (Nisqy for MAD and Patrik for XL) but the difference is that the need for MAD’s key player to carry is far less. MAD plays a team game and this should allow them to isolate Patrik in fights. XL is known for good early games but have struggled to find that groove in the last few matches. If they can jump on a fast start, they have a chance to win on Saturday. If they allow Elyoya to control the pace of the early game they will struggle to win.

Favorite Picks: Nisqy (MAD: $10,500/$7,000), Unforgiven (MAD: $7,400), Kaiser (MAD: $6,200)

Value Picks: Patrik (XL: $10,200/$6,800), Markoon (XL: $6,400)

Cann’s Match Pick: MAD Lions

Game #4: BDS Esport v Fnatic

Game Breakdown: There is no other way to say this but Fnatic have to win this match. BDS is the worst team the LEC has seen in a long time and FNC are on a 5 game loss streak. FNC have to start their rebound if they want to make a push for the playoffs and a lot of that rebound will need to start with Razork in the jungle. He has had minimal impact on the early game for FNC and he is facing off against Cinkrof who has only 9 kills and neary 40 deaths on the split. I am expecting FNC to come out with their most comfortable champions and play as standard and clean of a game as possible. BDS will need to rely on a solo laner (NUCLEARINT or Agresivoo) to gain a large enough early game lead that FNC cannot play their style in the mid game.

Favorite Picks: Upset (FNC: $12,000/$8,000), Humanoid (FNC: $7,200), Fnatic ($5,800)

Value Picks: Agresivoo (BDS: $5,200)

Cann’s Match Pick: Fnatic

Game #5: Team Vitality v G2 Esports

Game Breakdown: Shockingly, I am picking VIT here. I believe that G2 has stayed pretty stagnant in their approach to the game and teams have figured them out to a degree. G2 looked at their success at MSI (which heavily relied on Caps carrying more than his fair share of the weight) and have tried to apply it to the LEC. Much like the other teams at MSI, LEC have begun to gameplan against them, with a pretty high efficacy rate too. G2 cannot find another consistent angle to win if Caps is taken out of the game. Flakked can pick up big numbers but that is usually in late-game team fights and not in lane. VIT’s ADC (Carzzy) has struggled most in the early game/laning phase. If he can get a free pass and scale to a more useful position, VIT have a real shot here.

Favorite Picks: Caps (G2: $7,400), Flakked (G2: $7,200), Targamas (G2: $5,800)

Value Picks: Team Vitality ($4,200), Perkz (VIT: $9,300/$6,200), Alphari (VIT: $5,600), Haru (VIT: $6,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: Team Vitality
