CFB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets: Tuesday, 11/18
Tuesday night’s Week 13 slate features a pair of college football games. Let’s focus on one of those for our CFB MACtion Best Bets. Ohio is expected to win big as a massive home favorite against UMass. Let’s try to find a winning bet to begin our CFB picks!
UMass vs. Ohio Prediction: Tuesday, November 18th
After losing last week on the road, Ohio will be looking to bounce back in a big way at home on Tuesday. It’s a prime get-right spot for the Bobcats, who are still alive to reach the MAC title game. UMass is 0-10 on the season and getting blown out weekly.
Ohio should be motivated to serve a beatdown to the winless Minutemen. The full-game spread is a bit too big to trust, but we can back the Bobcats in another way. Let’s count on Ohio to get out to an early lead while covering the first-quarter spread.Â
Simply put, UMass is a terrible college football team. The Minutemen are dead last in the entire country in both points scored per game (10.5) and total yards per contest (246.3). Plus, they rank 134th in the FBS in points allowed per game (37.6) and are 128th in total yards allowed per game (440.9).Â
In turn, Massachusetts is losing big. It just suffered a 42-point home loss to Northern Illinois last week and a 34-point loss to Akron the game prior. Those big deficits also usually start early, too.
Over its past 5 conference games, UMass has been outscored in the first quarter by an average of 9.0 PPG with a combined 62-17 first-quarter scoreline. The Minutemen have also allowed an average of 11.4 PPG in the first quarter against FBS competition this year. Even last week against a subpar NIU team, they trailed 10-0 after the first quarter at home.Â
Ohio, meanwhile, has both the offense and defense to get out to a quick lead. The Bobcats are averaging 27.1 PPG this season, including 35.2 PPG at home. They boast a strong run game and rank in the top 50 in the country in both total yards per game and EPA/Play offensively.Â
The defense should shut down UMass early on as well. Ohio is 20th and 26th nationally in scoring defense and total defense, respectively, during conference play so far. The Bobcats are also 43rd in the FBS in EPA/Play defensively overall this year.Â
You can consider backing Ohio on the full-game or 1st half spreads. Yet, the first-quarter line is likely the safer way to go in this matchup. We could be looking at a 10-0 or 14-0 lead for the home squad after the first 15 minutes.Â
- Expert CFB Pick:Â
- Ohio -7.5 1st Quarter Spread (+118 on FanDuel Sportsbook)

CFB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets: Wednesday, 11/19
Let’s now focus on Wednesday night’s slate for our CFB MACtion Best Bets. Miami (OH) is a slight road favorite over Buffalo, with a 39.5 game total. This game really could go either way, but we’re looking at a team total for our CFB MACtion predictions. Good luck!Â
Miami (OH) vs. Buffalo Prediction: Wednesday, November 19thÂ
In last week’s CFB MACtion Best Bets, we successfully cashed the under on the Miami (OH) team total. The RedHawks mustered only 3 points against Toledo’s elite defense. Let’s go right back to that betting angle, as the offense could have more issues on the road at Buffalo.Â
Miami’s offense is in a tough spot right now. Starting quarterback Dequan Finn has abruptly left the team to begin preparing for the NFL. It’s obviously a big loss. The seventh-year senior’s veteran experience, especially in the MAC, and dual-threat ability cannot be replaced.Â
The RedHawks will now start Henry Heesen in Finn’s absence. He actually started last week with Finn not playing, but it didn’t go well. Heesen was 11-of-38 passing with 3 interceptions as Miami (OH) put up just 222 total yards of offense. He may be a senior, but he hasn’t seen any meaningful playing time in college until now.Â
Miami (OH) will likely try to lean on the run with their backup QB now under center. Well, that could go poorly against this Buffalo defense. The Bulls are allowing just 3.37 yards per carry in conference play (22nd in FBS), while ranking 27th nationally in total EPA against the rush and 19th in defensive success rate vs. the run.Â
Buffalo is also allowing just 21.4 PPG this season (38th in college football). Overall, the Bulls are 19th in the FBS in defensive success rate and 41st in EPA/Play defensively. Their defense will keep this a low-scoring game, so the under on Miami’s team total is the play.Â
- Expert CFB Pick:Â
- Miami (OH) Team Total Under 20.5 Points (-140 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
