CFB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets: Tuesday, 11/4

Tuesday night’s Week 10 slate features a pair of college football games. Let’s focus on one of those for our CFB MACtion Best Bets. Ohio is favored at home by 2.5 points vs. Miami (OH), with a 49.5 game total. Good luck with your CFB picks!

Miami (OH) vs. Ohio Prediction: Tuesday, November 4th

Miami (OH) enters this game in first place in the MAC with a 4-0 record in conference play. Despite that, we’re fading the Redhawks on the road here. Ohio boasts a distinct homefield advantage with a few key edges in this matchup.

First off, Ohio has proven very tough to beat at home when facing MAC opponents. Since the start of the 2022 season, the Bobcats are 14-1 SU and 13-2 ATS at home in conference play. They’ve already won their first two home league games comfortably this season, by 27 and 15 points.

On offense, Ohio can ride its potent rushing attack in a favorable matchup. The Bobcats rank 17th in the FBS in rushing yards per game, 27th in yards per carry, and 45th in rushing EPA. They have a stud lead back in Sieh Bangura, while dual-threat QB Parker Navarro gives the run game an added dimension. Together, the pair is averaging 5.4 yards per carry this year.

Meanwhile, the Miami (OH) defense has some poor advanced metrics against the run. The Redhawks rank 125th nationally in defensive EPA/Rush and 123rd in defensive success rate vs. the run. They’ve also benefited from facing some subpar rushing attacks in conference play thus far, but could get exposed on the ground in this spot.

On the other side, Miami’s strength on offense is via the pass, while having an inconsistent and inefficient run game. Well, Ohio’s strength on defense is also against the pass. The Bobcats rank 51st in the country in EPA/Pass defensively. They’re also 30th in the FBS in passing yards allowed per game in conference play (193.8).

Let’s back Ohio to cover as the home favorite. Miami (OH) is just 2-5 ATS as a single-digit road underdog over the past three regular seasons. Combine that with Ohio’s aforementioned dominance as a home favorite vs. MAC opponents.

CFB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets: Wednesday, 11/5

Let’s now focus on Wednesday night’s slate for our CFB MACtion Best Bets. Northern Illinois takes on Toledo, with the latter favored by double-digits at home. This should be an easy win for the Rockets, but we’re looking at a team total for our CFB MACtion predictions.

Northern Illinois vs. Toledo Prediction: Wednesday, November 5th

Simply put, it’s hard to see Northern Illinois scoring much in this game. The Toledo offense is more unpredictable game-to-game, so we’ll stay away from the spread and over/under. Instead, let’s target the Huskies’ team total on the road.

Toledo’s defense is statistically among the best in the country. The Rockets are allowing just 16.0 PPG (10th in FBS) while giving up only 236.3 total yards per game (3rd). They rank 2nd nationally in defensive EPA/Play and 5th in defensive success rate. The defense is also elite against both the run and pass this year.

Northern Illinois, conversely, has one of the worst offenses in college football. The Huskies are averaging only 13.4 PPG this season (134th in FBS), while ranking 132nd nationally in total offense. Plus, they rank 133rd in the country in EPA/Play and 136th in success rate offensively.

The NIU offense has also struggled mightily on the road, averaging 12.5 PPG across four road games. Meanwhile, Toledo is giving up only 13.8 PPG in conference play thus far. That includes just 10 and 3 points allowed in its two home league matchups vs. Kent State and Akron, respectively. A similar dominant defensive effort could be coming this week.

So, we have one of the best defenses in the sport facing arguably the worst offense. Let’s not overthink this complete mismatch on one side of the ball. Take the under on the Northern Illinois team total.
