A lot can happen within a matter of days.  Since the last injury report, we have seen some impact players make an appearance which will affect your fantasy lineups for the remainder of Week 4.  Without any further ado, here is the next edition of the walking wounded.

Kris Bryant (3B-CHC)

The 2015 National League Rookie of the Year suffered an ankle sprain during the Cubs game on Thursday and will undergo an MRI.  Early indications out of Chicago are that they don’t believe this is a serious injury, but that won’t ease the concerns of fantasy owners.  Bryant is already an elite player at this stage of his career and any extended absence would be devastating for GM’s who likely spent a first or second round pick on him.  Keep a close eye on his test results and hope that he doesn’t miss too much time.

Carlos Carrasco (SP-CLE)

The Indians placed Carrasco on the disabled list with a strained hamstring he suffered last weekend while covering first base.  The good news is that it was just a hamstring injury as opposed to a knee injury.  Carrasco is emerging as one of the better fantasy pitchers in the league so the timing of the injury is unfortunate.  He was already 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 0.95 WHIP through four starts and will likely miss four to six weeks.  This is an optimistic prognosis because we all know hamstring injuries are difficult to project in terms of recovery and rehab time.  He should absolutely be stashed on your DL or bench irrespective of how many available spots you have.

Yoenis Cespedes (OF-NYM)

Cespedes suffered a bruise on his leg over a week ago when he jumped into the stands trying to catch a foul ball.  He stayed in the game and continued to play the next few days until the bruise flared up when he slid into second base.  Now Cespedes has missed several games this week outside of a dramatic pinch hit appearance when he homered to tie a game against Cincinnati.  The Mets expect him back in the lineup on Friday so plan on putting him back in yours.  He has been red hot so hopefully the down time will not cool off one of his trademark scorching hot streaks.

David Robertson (RP-CHW)

White Sox closer David Robertson has been nearly perfect with eight saves and incredible peripheral numbers in all categories.  He was placed on the bereavement list and is scheduled to return on Sunday.  There is no clear cut secondary option for saves so don’t bank on any one particular reliever over the next few days until Robertson returns.

Carlos Gomez (OF-HOU)

Gomez was hit by a pitch on his wrist and was taken out of Seattle’s game on Wednesday night.  The X-rays came back negative so he is expected to be back by the weekend.  Gomez has been extremely disappointing thus far batting just .197 with no home runs and two stolen bases through his first 21 games.  He will need to get hot quickly after he comes back in order to justify continued playing time on fantasy rosters.

Huston Street (RP-LAA)

Street has been placed on the disabled list with an oblique strain which automatically makes Joe Smith an absolute must for waiver pickups.  As we know, oblique injuries are high on the list for red flags because they can require extended absences depending on the severity and the need for rest and rehab time.  Smith will assume closing duties and the job will be his to lose.

Miguel Montero (C-CHC)

Montero was placed on the disabled list due to the recurring bulging disk in his back.  He will be undergoing further tests but the initial thought is that he will probably be out for an extended period of time.  Montero isn’t much of a fantasy option at this stage of his career and neither of his backups are worth adding to fantasy rosters either unless you are in deep NL-only leagues.
