NBA DFS Showdown Playbook October 28: Utah Jazz vs. Phoenix Suns
For tonight’s NBA DFS Showdown breakdown, we’re looking at the late-night hammer between the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns. The Suns are short-handed coming into this game without Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, but that hasn’t stopped the sportsbooks from making the Suns nearly six-point favorites this evening. Utah is on the second leg of a back-to-back for what that’s worth. Finding some of the NBA DFS top picks could be made easier if you take a look at Fantasy Alarm’s NBA DFS Projections, powered by FanJections. Let’s dive into the complete breakdown for tonight’s showdown slate

NBA DFS Showdown CPT/MVP Top Plays
Kevin Durant, Phoenix Suns
Thus far through two games, Kevin Durant has a 44.7% USG and averages 1.33 FP/min with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal off the floor. He went for 39 points, 11 rebounds, and nearly 58 DKP in his last game too. Really hard not to plug and play Durant in the captain’s chair and move on with the rest of your lineup.
Lauri Markkanen, Utah Jazz
We saw what it looks like when Markkanen is in his flow state offensively. He’s essentially unstoppable. He poured in 35 points and has now started the year off with double-doubles. His ceiling is really based on his scoring output because outside of the rebounds, he doesn’t contribute much peripherally. Markkanen is the clear pivot off KD.
Jusuf Nurkic, Phoenix Suns
Foul trouble is the name of the game when it comes to Nurkic. If he can stay on the floor, his ceiling is insanely high because of how active he is essentially everywhere. He’s a double-double machine and is a good and able passer out of the post. Without Bradley Beal and Devin Booker, Nurkic steps into the “Robin” role to Kevin Durant’s “Batman.”
Jordan Clarkson, Utah Jazz
Seeing Clarkson shoot just 13 times is a little strange because Clarkson’s never seen a shot he doesn’t like. Clarkson has had four rebounds and six assists in each of the first two games as the team’s starting shooting-guard, which is great considering he’s generally reliant upon scoring. If we get the scoring we got from him in Game 1 in this game, Clarkson is a slate-breaking showdown option.
NBA DFS Showdown UTIL Top Plays
John Collins, Utah Jazz
The fit in Utah for Collins has been quite good as he’s notched two double-doubles in two games thus far. It’s not the easiest assignment for Collins here with Kevin Durant on the opposite side of the floor, but if he can stay out of foul trouble he’s a solid UTIL option.
Josh Okogie, Phoenix Suns
Okogie has been super steady through two games for the Suns and with Bradley Beal and Devin Booker out again, there’s no reason to think his role isn’t still expanded here. Okogie is incredibly active on the offensive glass and provides himself second opportunities all the time. He’s not a high-usage player at all as he took just five shots last game, but is good everywhere and has put up 27+ DKP in each game this year.
Kelly Olynyk, Utah Jazz
If the Jazz continue to not extend Walker Kessler and play Olynyk over him, he’s a solid GPP option. Olynyk has a high ceiling because he can stretch the floor, is a good rebounder, and a great passer from the post as well. He’s put up 20+ DKP in each game this year and last night was extended to 28 minutes to Walker Kessler’s 21. There’s always the off chance Kessler’s the one extended, which is what makes Olynyk a GPP option.
Eric Gordon, Phoenix Suns
The recipe for Gordon is simple. Make some shots, ceiling is there. He went 4-for-16 in Game 1 and 6-for-16 in Game 2. He’s topped 30 minutes in both games, too. Kevin Durant could use some help offensively.
NBA DFS Showdown Value Plays
Jordan Goodwin, Phoenix Suns
It’s hard not to love Goodwin in all formats here. He didn’t start, but played 30 minutes off the bench as the team’s point guard. He went 6-for-15 and scored 14 points and 28.5 DKP. He’s as safe as it’s going to get without Devin Booker and Bradley Beal here.
Drew Eubanks, Phoenix Suns
Backup centers hit sometimes, especially if foul trouble is in play. There’s always a chance Nurkic picks up a quick two fouls and Eubanks is a solid FP/min guy.
