There are just over three weeks left in the Major League Baseball season and setting our fantasy baseball lineups is so important every day now. The MLB injury report gets more complicated as teams could be resting players for a playoff run, while other teams out of contention have no motivation to bring back stars who might be dinged up. We have big-name players trending down the fantasy baseball player rankings while some MLB top prospects emerge as well. With a new week starting, we always have you covered with the top fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups as well as the two-start and streaming pitchers to add. So, before setting those critical lineups for another week, let's go over the fantasy baseball injury report for the latest MLB injury news.

Fantasy Baseball MLB Injury Report September 12

Shohei Ohtani, LAA

The phenom left the game as a pitcher in the fifth inning on Saturday with a blister issue, but he still did stay in as a DH and had a big game at the plate on Sunday, so this shouldn’t be too big of an issue. The team hasn’t announced if he will make his next start, but for those of you with Ohtani (the hitter), everything seems to be just fine.

Trevor Story, BOS

He left Sunday’s game with a heel injury trying to beat out a ground ball. We do not know the timetable for his return, but you would think that Story would go through some testing. With the Sox not even close to contention, this only needs to be a fairly mild injury to cost him the rest of the year.

Byron Buxton, MIN

He has had a pretty great year, despite a less than stellar batting average. Buxton though, has done his usual and spent plenty of time on the injured list. He has missed the past couple of weeks though with various injuries but is nearing his return. He is going to miss most of the upcoming week but shouldn’t miss much more than a few more games.

Jorge Polanco, MIN

The Twins infielder missed the entire weekend despite being eligible to return. His knee injury isn’t quite healed yet, and he could miss another couple days but he will return this week to the Twins lineup.

Starling Marte, NYM

Well, after the Mets initially said that Marte was not going to hit the injured list after being hit on the hand, he indeed did hit the injured list on Saturday. It was made retroactive to September 7th, so it would seem that the Mets don’t think that he will miss a lot more time, but for the time being he is out of the lineup.

Freddy Peralta, MIL

It has been a rough season for the Brewers pitcher, and he is back on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder fatigue. He has been in and out of the rotation all season, and there is a chance that this ends his season. Milwaukee is barely holding on to hopes for a wild card spot, so they have little incentive to rush back their stud pitcher.

Ryan Pressly, HOU

The Astros welcomed back their closer over the weekend after recovering from his neck injury. He might not be 100 percent, but there isn’t much time left in the season and Houston needs their big gun back. With just a few weeks in the fantasy season also, you definitely have to get him activated.

Michael Lorenzen, LAA

He hadn’t pitched since July 1st, but Lorenzen made a triumphant return after more than two months from a shoulder injury. Lorenzen allowed just one run over 5.2 innings but struck out just two. He isn’t an amazing pitcher, but with just a few weeks left, Lorenzen could be an add for those of you pitcher hungry down the stretch.

Hunter Greene, CIN

The Reds fireballer is working his way back from a shoulder injury. He struck out five guys in three innings in what could be his final rehab assignment on Sunday. The three innings aren’t too long, but he did throw 66 pitches in the game. You might want to see him build up a bit more before returning, but I expect his next start to be for the Reds. If he was dropped, he might be able to give you some strikeouts in the last three weeks.

Jon Gray, TEX

After missing about a month, Gray will be back from the 15-day injured list and start for the Rangers on Monday. He has been out with an oblique injury, which is always tough to gauge, but he had a successful rehab, and could be a decent source of starts in the season’s last month.

Nico Hoerner, CHC

The Cubs surprising speedster (well I guess 18 steals is a speedster by today’s standards) left the game on Sunday with tightness in his triceps. He’s had a very fine season, but as I referenced in the intro, teams like the Cubs have no motivation to bring back injured players before the end of the year. We will wait on further word on Hoerner, but it would at least appear he is set to miss a little time.
