Just when you get comfortable with a league and which teams are the best, you’ll get a slate like Wednesday. Both of the heavy favorites (DRX and T1 Esports) in the LCK lost at the hands of inferior opponents. Both teams showed some weaknesses and strayed away from where they found success in previous matches this split. Looking ahead to Thursday, who are those teams? Teams who try to get too cute or reinvent themselves when it isn’t necessary, Players who try to do too much but instead fail miserably. Huge names competing for a chance to be in the Summer Playoffs, let’s dive in!

Fantasy Value Breakdown

Series #1: Fredit BRION v Hanwha Life Esports

Series Breakdown: The feelings about HLE coming into this year was that they had serious pieces to try and compete for a legitimate playoff run. They have been really lackluster this year but it is hard to look past some of their core pieces. The most crucial piece for HLE has to be their ADC, SamD. SamD has some really quality career numbers (3.15 KDA and nearly a perfect 10 CSPM) but this split he is well below those benchmarks (2.0 KDA and 8.52 CSPM). This underperformance does leave a chance for  BRO to win, but they too need to have a better performance. No team on their squad has an FPPG over 29.2, which is abysmal and reason enough to give this squad a wide berth. I am not sure any picks here are worth the dollar amount but if you are going to fill, fill with HLE.

Favorite Picks: Morgan (BRO: $5,800)

Value Picks: Karis (HLE: $6,600), SamD (HLE: $6,800), Hanwha Life Esports ($5,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: Hanwha Life Esports (2-1)

Series #2: Bilibili Gaming v Invictus Gaming

Series Breakdown: I absolutely love the dogs in IG in this matchup. They have one more game win and are tied in the standings for the series record (1-4). BLG has been pretty consistent through the year being overly underwhelming and underperforming expectations. Doggo (BLG ADC) should not be at a $12,000 captain salary. He has 45 kills in 13 games and picked up a mere 70% team kill participation rate. I am unimpressed with BLG and I would argue that IG has begun to look better in a short period of time. The key IG player to watch here is the jungler, XUN. XUN has 50+ kills (more than the opposing ADC) and has leaned into utilizing his carry mentality to pick up wins for IG. The question will be if players like Wink (ADC) and Yeukai (Mid) will pick up their end of the bargain.

Favorite Picks: Weiwei (BLG: $6,800), icon (BLG: $7,400), Doggo (BLG: $8,000)

Value Picks: XUN (IG: $9,600/$6,400), Wink ($6,600), Invictus ($4,800)

Cann’s Match Pick: Invictus Gaming (2-1)

Series #3: Nongshim RedForce v Gen.G

Series Breakdown: If there is a god, the LCK fans are praying that Gen.G doesn’t get upset on Thursday. The top of the LCK looked untouchable up until Wednesday when both DRX and T1 Esports were both embarrassed. Gen.G has the best roster in Korea and this is a take that I have had for a while. The likes of Ruler (ADC), Chovy (Mid), and Peanut (jungle) are just a trifecta that is too much for most teams to deal with. NS will most likely try to limit the impact that Ruler can have by banning late-game picks and then focus on getting their top laner (Canna) into a position where he can create a lot of pressure in a side lane. I think there is a possibility that this approach can pick them up one game, but Gen.G’s ability to control the map state is too good to lose in the draft like that.

Favorite Picks: Ruler (GEN: $11,400/$7,600), Chovy (GEN: $11,700/$7,800), Gen.G ($6,00)

Value Picks: Bdd (NS: $6,200), Effort (NS: $4,400)

Cann’s Match Pick: Gen.G (2-0)

Series #4: Royal Never Give Up v Oh My God

Series Breakdown: Admittedly, RNG has not looked the same as they did at the Mid-Season Invitational. They have a 2-1 series record and only 5-4 in games straight up. OMG, their opponent, is 2-3 as a match record and 6-7 in games straight up. It may be too small of a sample size to make a direct comparison but the performance between both teams is not as wide as salaries may imply. RNG does have a more talented and experienced roster, which is why I think the MSI funk will eventually wear off but I think overinvesting in RNG could be a trap. In fact, Able (OMG ADC) is only averaging 0.1 FPPG less than GALA but is $2,700 cheaper in the captain role. Now, this could be the game that RNG gets everything ironed out, but to have your ADC priced at over $12,000 is just overall too much investment.

Favorite Picks: Wei (RNG: $7,200),  Ming (RNG: $6,200)

Value Picks: shanji (OMG: $5,000), Able (OMG: $6,400)

Cann’s Match Pick: Royal Never Give Up (2-1)
