Week 12 is now officially in the books and we turn the calendar to July this week.  The season is flying by with the All Star game right around the corner, so now is really the time to start making your moves and build your team for the stretch run.  So without further adieu, here is the next installment of the walking wounded.

Giancarlo Stanton (OF-MIA)

There are some injuries that are more impactful than others.  This one certainly qualifies as a disaster as Stanton broke the hamate bone in his left hand.  He underwent surgery and will be out for at least four to six weeks.  There is no sugarcoating this as Stanton’s injury will be catastrophic for your fantasy team.  It will be nearly impossible to replace the power and run production he provides, so you will have to do your best to tread water until August.

Anthony Rendon (2B/3B-WAS

Fantasy owners had been patient enough waiting a couple months for Rendon to make his season debut after getting injured in spring training.  Now he has landed back on the disabled list with a left quad injury that will likely shut him down through the All Star break.  This is a significant loss for GMs, but Rendon has barely played this year anyway so it should feel normal again being without him.

Tim Lincecum (SP-SF)

Lincecum was hit by a line drive during his last start and suffered a contusion on his right forearm.  The writing was on the wall anyway to move him to the bullpen as the former Cy Young award winner is nothing more than a mediocre pitcher without much fantasy relevance.  It’s possible he is put on the disabled list in the interim, but either way you can feel free to clear a roster spot by letting him go.

Josh Hamilton (OF-TEX)

Hamilton is in the midst of his rehab assignment for his hamstring injury and should be back during Week 13.  He is still a risky proposition but is worth putting back in your lineup as a fifth outfielder unless you have better options.  He only played a handful of games before getting injured again, so the jury is still out on whether a return to Texas is just what the doctor ordered for a potential return to prominence.

Brandon Phillips (2B-CIN)

Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips was taken out of Sunday’s game with an apparent hand injury.  He has a history of issues with his left hand, but it appeared as though something was wrong with his right hand during the game against the Mets.  It would not be surprising if he ended up on the disabled list because there is very little he will be able to do if both his hands are ailing him.  Plan on being without him for at least the immediate future.

Alcides Escobar (SS-KC)

Escobar was removed from Sunday’s game with a finger injury related to a split nail.  It does not appear to be serious enough to keep him out of the lineup at all during Week 13.  Check back on Monday for further updates and make sure he is active.

Chase Utley (2B-PHI)

Utley was placed on the disabled list with inflammation in his right ankle.  He has been absolutely awful all season and is not worth holding onto unless you are in a very deep league with unlimited DL slots and you dream every night of the possibility of him getting traded to a contending team.

Byron Buxton (OF-MIN)

Twins’ prospect Byron Buxton suffered a sprained left thumb earlier in the week and has been placed on the DL.  He has had to overcome some big injuries in his short career, and this one will set him back at least a month.  The talent and value are there for keeper leagues, but he doesn’t need to clog up your roster in a redraft league.
