As the author of the fantasy football injury report on Fantasy Alarm, I feel I am busier right now than the public relations director for Sayreville High School here in central New Jersey.  If you don’t get that reference, do a Google search for Sayreville High School football team (but do it after you read this article).  The injuries keep piling up and coming back as we have many repeat offenders on today’s list.  There is no question that your Week 6 lineups are going to be heavily impacted, so pay close attention and act accordingly.

A.J. Green (WR-CIN)

Fantasy GM’s collectively gasped on Wednesday when A.J. Green was carted off the practice field after aggravating his toe injury.  He will be seeing a foot specialist and is certainly out for this week’s game against the Panthers.  The reality is that Green will probably be shut down for a couple weeks to allow the toe injury to heal.  If the Bengals are serious about going far into the postseason, they will need Green to be 100% (or as close to it as possible).  Unfortunately, that will likely come at the expense of fantasy owners who drafted him in the first or second rounds.

Calvin Johnson (WR-DET)

Calvin Johnson did not practice on Thursday which adds to the speculation that he will not play this week.  Fantasy GM’s have been bracing for this all week, but reality is now setting in.  The only positive to take out of Megatron’s potential benching is that the time off will help him heal completely so he can be healthy for the rest of the season.

Eric Decker (WR-NYJ)

Eric Decker signed a lucrative free agent contract with the Jets after several successful seasons in Denver.  Now the Broncos are coming to town this week and Decker is motivated to perform against his former teammates.  His nagging hamstring injury just won’t go away and the Jets can ill afford to rest him for more than a week because of how poorly their offense has played thus far.  You can expect Decker to play, but there is no guarantee he finishes the game.  If he does manage to stay on the field, he could accumulate some nice garbage time statistics since the Jets will likely be playing from behind all day.

Vernon Davis (TE-SF)

Vernon Davis has been banged up the past few weeks with both ankle and back injuries.  He had to come out of the 49ers game in Week 4 with back spasms but returned to practice on Thursday.  It now appears likely that Davis will play on Monday night against St. Louis.  This is great news for fantasy GM’s because Davis is one of the most productive tight ends in fantasy football and can help stabilize Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers’ offense.

Vincent Jackson (WR-TB)

Vincent Jackson did not practice on Thursday as he is dealing with a rib injury.  But fear not fantasy owners as there does not appear to be any danger of him missing this week’s game against Baltimore.  Jackson is still a viable fantasy option despite the Buccaneers being a terrible team and having issues at quarterback.  Tampa Bay’s running game is even worse so expect Jackson to continue being targeted well over 10 times.

Toby Gerhart (RB-JAX)

I couldn’t understand all the love being given to Toby Gerhart during fantasy football draft season.  Just because he signed as a free agent to be Jacksonville’s top running back does not all of a sudden make him a good player.  He has been a complete bust for both the Jaguars and fantasy GM’s.  He was held out of practice on Thursday with an ankle injury and his status is up in the air for Sunday against the Titans.  Even if he does play, he is not worth starting this week because Storm Johnson will get the bulk of the playing time.

Reggie Bush (RB-DET)

Reggie Bush did not practice again on Thursday and his status is questionable at best for Sunday’s game against the Vikings.  He is dealing with an ankle injury which is troublesome for a running back like Bush.  There is still a chance he will play if he can rebound and return to practice, but chances are that he will be sitting this week out.  Even if he does play, expect his workload to be limited with the return of Joique Bell to the lineup.

Joique Bell (RB-DET)

Joique Bell missed last week’s game with a concussion but has returned to full participation in practice.  He will be playing this Sunday against Minnesota and should have an incredible workload if both Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush are unable to play.  Bell hasn’t been overly productive yet this season, but this is definitely a good week to have him in your lineup.

Greg Olsen (TE-CAR)

Greg Olsen had a big game last week against the Bears where he caught two touchdown passes, but he also sustained an ankle injury which has kept him out of practice through Thursday.  That being said, the injury is not considered serious and he is expected to play against Cincinnati.  The Panthers’ offense has been depleted with injuries and Kelvin Benjamin has had a rough time dropping passes at an alarming rate.  This means that Olsen is easily Cam Newton’s primary target and could be in for a big game against a tough Bengals’ defense.

Jake Locker (QB-TEN)

It does not look like Jake Locker will get the thumbs up to start on Sunday against Jacksonville as he is still not practicing due to a thumb injury.  This means it will likely be Charlie Whiteburst playing quarterback for the Titans which does not bode well for players like Justin Hunter, Delanie Walker and Nate Washington.  This should be a great matchup for Tennessee, but Whitehurst may be one of the only players in the league who could make a fantasy GM consider starting Jacksonville’s defense.
