The Week That Was Football: The Injuries From Week 8

Big name injuries highlight this week’s Football Week That Was.

For 2014, The Week that Was: NFL will focus on injuries and their effects.

Doug Martin:  Sunday was another bad day for Doug Martin.  Not only were there reports he is on the trading block, but he also suffered an ankle injury.  Before the leaving the game, Martin was anything but effective, rushing for 27 yards on 10 carries.  If he gets traded to a team that has a good offensive line and will run the ball, ok, there could be a there there.  However, savvy fantasy owners will run out and grab Charles Sims who is due back from the IR in week 9.  Do it!

Jordan Cameron:    Jordan Cameron left Sunday’s game with concussion-like symptoms. He was hardly on fire before the injury, reeling in only three passes on five targets for 40 yards.  Hopefully, more will be known early in the week.  From a fantasy perspective, it is time to look for plan B at tight end.  The Browns TE has not caught more than three balls in a game all year and the season is almost half over.  Andrew Hawkins continues to be the prime target for Brian Hoyer, snaring seven passes on nine targets for 88 yards and TD.  We hope Cameron is ok but with Josh Gordon due back in a few weeks, the fantasy football outlook for Cameron is dire.  Next!

Bryce Brown:   Bryce Brown failed to take advantage to the opportunity created by the injuries to both Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller.  Brown rushed for 15 yards on 7 carries and failed to haul in any of the three balls thrown his way.  With the Bills on bye next week and the possibility Fred Jackson returns for week 10, there is nothing to see here.  Again, Next!

Patrick PetersonIn the Cardinals big win over the Eagles, Patrick Peterson left the game to get concussion tests.  Watch this closely because if he cannot return for the big game in big D next week, Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Terrence Williams will be even more valuable.  After all, with Peterson out, Nick Foles put the ball up 62 times.  Bad strategy but it is good for fantasy football numbers.

Brian Quick:  The Rams WR left Sunday’s game early with an arm injury.  According to reports, he had his arm in a sling after the game.  Watch the reports carefully, but either way, it is time to upgrade Kenny Britt.  While Britt has hardly lived up to the “reunited with Jeff Fisher” hype, with gunslinger Austin Davis heaving the ball around and his favorite target potentially shelved, Britt could be in for some good fantasy football days.  Again, watch this one.

Nate WashingtonNate Washington reportedly suffered an AC joint sprain on Sunday.  Of course, this is bad news for Nate.  For fantasy owners who have been waiting for Justin Hunter to explode, this may be what you needed (though of course, one never ever roots for injuries).  Hunter was targeted 10 times and got into the end zone Sunday.  I still think that with Mettenberger at QB and Hunter being the best long ball target, there will be some good games for the 2d year WR Hunter in the second half.  Buy low now if you still can.

Trent RichardsonTrent Richardson was active Sunday.  That is where the accolades end.  He did not touch the ball in the blowout loss to Pittsburgh.  All I can say is if you own TRich hold him.  The odds of Ahmad Bradshaw staying healthy and continuing to play at this level are long indeed.
