2026 Fantasy Baseball Player Profile
Tommy Edman’s first full season with the Dodgers in 2025 was a nightmare scenario for fantasy managers. Hampered by a nagging ankle injury that eventually required offseason surgery, the switch-hitting utilityman played in just 97 games and posted the worst numbers of his career. His greatest fantasy asset—speed—evaporated, as he swiped a shocking 3 bases (caught once) after averaging nearly 30 steals in his previous healthy seasons. The injury also impacted his bat control, resulting in a .225/.274/.382 slash line and a wRC+ of just 81. While he did manage to hit 13 home runs, his inability to get on base or run effectively turned him into a replacement-level fantasy option.
Entering 2026, Edman is a "draft and stash" candidate rather than a starter. Reports indicate he will be delayed for Spring Training and is questionable for Opening Day as he rehabs his ankle. When he does return, his multi-position eligibility (2B, SS, OF) remains useful, but fantasy managers must be extremely wary of the "speed tax" often paid by players returning from lower-body surgeries. Projections are optimistic he can rebound to a .250 average with 15+ steals, but until he proves he can trust his ankle on the basepaths, he should be treated as a late-round depth piece with upside, not a reliable source of steals.
