2022 Player Outlook

Dunning went 5-10 with a 4.51 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 22.3 percent strikeout rate and 8.4 percent walk rate in 117.2 innings for Texas in 2021. He allowed a lot of hard contact (43.5% hard hit rate), and his average exit velocity and max exit velocity came in at the 36th and second percentile respectively. His numbers were a bit inflamed by his final 38.2 innings of the year, but the biggest drop of had to be that although he manage a 25.4 percent strikeout rate in September (10.1 IP), it was actually below 20 percent in July and August. At the very least, Dunning's spot in the rotation is pretty secure, and the team is hoping he can be a solid second or third option behind offseason signing Jon Gray. Dunning isn't going to transform to a big time strikeout arm in 2022, but if he can at least push closer to a strikeout per inning, that would increase his fantasy value tenfold. Although a better offense behind him could maybe garner him a few extra wins, his ERA is still going to reside in the mid-4s.
