NASCAR DFS Hollywood Casino 400 Playbook: Top DraftKings and FanDuel Plays

Published: Sep 09, 2023
The 2023 NFL season kicked off just down the road from Kansas Speedway at Arrowhead Stadium this week between the Chiefs and Lions. While those teams are hoping to make the playoffs, NASCAR Cup Series teams are already in the playoffs and trying to make the Round of 12. That’s what’s on the line at the Hollywood Casino 400 on Sunday. Back in May, Kansas provided one of the best races in recent memory and we’re expecting more of the same this weekend. This track is one of my, and the drivers, favorites on the schedule. Why is it my favorite? What can we take from the Advent Health 400 for this week? What does DFS strategy look like at Kansas? Who are the top plays for the Hollywood Casino 400? All this and the weekly preview podcast in this week’s NASCAR DFS Playbook!
Advent Health 400 Results
The Kansas race in May was one of the best races in recent memory. It had a bit of everything from wrecks to strategy to passes for lead under green. The multiple grooves of the track were in full force and there was three-wide racing throughout the pack. So what can we take from the May race for this weekend? A lot, actually. I would expect to see a lot of similar racing for the lead and throughout the pack as we saw in that race. That means that track position won’t be the most important here and long run speed will be a decider. Restarts will also be crazy as it’ll take a while for the field to narrow back out which should give several laps of close racing and chances for picking up spots.
NASCAR DFS Strategy For Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway
Kansas is one of the more wide-open intermediate tracks on the schedule. From the style of racing to the strategy we use for this track, it’s one of the most enjoyable tracks all around all year. Speaking of strategy, the first thing we’re looking at is how many dominators to build around. We’re mainly looking at two dominators with a smattering of others leading 15-20 laps. That’s what’s been the case in the past races. With an ability to drive multiple different grooves, there’s a lot of chances to pass for the lead here, unless one driver just nails the setup. As far as position differential goes, there’s a ton of it available. Not only because of how the field was set in qualifying but also because of the racing that happens. When we look at intermediate tracks throughout the year, Kansas is typically the one with the highest PD rates as well as being one where pre-race penalties don’t hamper a driver’s chances. So to take a lot of words to say very little, it’s a wide-open build type week. Make note of practice speeds from Saturday as long run speeds will matter.
