MLB DFS Playbook September 10: Top Plays for DraftKings and FanDuel

Published: Sep 10, 2023
Today is not just the first NFL Sunday of the year; it is also another great Sunday of September baseball! We have a great slate of games in line with a 13-game main slate on both DraftKings and FanDuel getting underway at 1:05 PM EST. There are some exciting games this afternoon, including the Seattle Mariners facing the Tampa Bay Rays as both are looking to try and make a deep run in October, an AL East showdown with the Baltimore Orioles facing the Boston Red Sox, who are fighting to keep any glimmer of postseason aspirations alive, and the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs going against each other both with postseason hopes very much alive. We have plenty of stars to choose from today on both the hitting and pitching side, so there are plenty of different ways to build a winning lineup whether you are playing cash games or gpp tournaments; so let’s dive into today’s playbook! Be sure to check in with our MLB DFS Tools, with the daily MLB projections, MLB DFS rostership projections, and our MLB DFS Lineup Generator when building those lineups today to help you decide which players you should be targeting!

MLB Weather Updates
Milwaukee Brewers vs New York Yankees: Rain and thunderstorms all through the afternoon, hopefully they will play but keep a close eye on it.
Baltimore Orioles vs Boston Red Sox: Scattered thunderstorms this afternoon as well, definitely could be a delay but I bet they play eventually.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs Washington Nationals: Rain on and off throughout the day but should be clear enough this afternoon to get through the game.
DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
There are some great pitchers taking the mound today, and while I love some of the aces between Gerrit Cole, Pablo Lopez, Corbin Burnes, and Zach Eflin and think that all are very viable options today, there are some lower-end pitchers with high upside that I am a big fan of today to build lineups around. On the offensive side, some of my favorites to target include the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, and the Atlanta Braves.

Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups
Grayson Rodriguez, Baltimore Orioles
While Boston is always a tough place to pitch, Grayson Rodriguez has been fantastic lately, and I trust him to go out and perform while in a tough environment. Grayson comes at an incredibly low price today for the skill that he brings to the mound. He is now at 8 straight starts with 3 or fewer earned runs, and I bet that streak continues today.
Cole Ragans, Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals may have gotten themselves an ace in Cole Ragans. Over his last 7 starts, he has struck out 60 batters through 42.2 innings, along with a 1.48 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP. He has a tough challenge today against the Toronto Blue Jays, but he has looked like he could take down just about anyone right now with how good he has been pitching.
Recommended DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
Atlanta Braves vs Luis Ortiz
Houston Astros vs Matt Waldron
Boston Red Sox vs Grayson Rodriguez
Cincinnati Reds vs Miles Mikolas
Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups
Spencer Torkelson, 1B Detroit Tigers
There is some hope in Detroit with how good the young guys have been starting to hit, and Spencer Torkelson has been a big part of that. He just had himself a two-homer game a few days ago and is up to 27 homers on the season. I expect some quality value across the Detroit Tigers lineup today, but Spencer Torkelson is easily my favorite of the group to target.
Gleyber Torres, 2B New York Yankees
The youth movement is here in New York, turning Gleyber Torres into one of the veterans on the squad, but Torres is proving that he is also ready to be a centerpiece of the new Yankees. Torres has 5 homers over his last 10 games and continues to provide great value up the middle for the Yankees, and I like him to give some solid production again today, even against Corbin Burnes.
Royce Lewis, 3B Minnesota Twins
Royce Lewis continues to be undervalued. Since returning from the IL on August 15th, he has slashed .313/.387/.627, along with 7 homers. The Minnesota Twins should score plenty of runs today, getting to face Tylor Megill, and I expect Royce Lewis to be right in the middle of it and a great centerpiece for any lineup being built today.
Corbin Carroll, OF Arizona Diamondbacks
Corbin Carroll has pretty much cemented himself as the NL Rookie of the Year but is still trying to make sure he makes it to the postseason as well. In a good matchup against Kyle Hendricks today, he should continue what has been an amazing rookie debut and provide great value for both the Diamondbacks and our DFS lineups.
