MLB Weather Updates

Toronto Blue Jays vs Pittsburgh Pirates

If you read the weather reports around the industry it seems like this game may have a delayed start today but eventually the rain moves off and its clear sailing from there. Unless we see updates that the rain is sticking around we shouldn't be too worried here by a rain delay before first pitch.

Detroit Tigers vs St. Louis Cardinals

This game could be a bit worse than the one above with storms in the area here that could cause an in-game delay. Will need to really monitor the weather updates as we approach first pitch.

Miami Marlins vs Chicago Cubs

Some rain in the area but maybe more importantly we have wind blowing in today at 10-to-15 miles per hour. We generally look at Wrigley Field as a hitters park due to the fact that winds are usually blowing out but with winds blowing in we have a slight boost to pitching.

DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

Stacking is the name of the game and if you can't tell from the cover image I am a big fan of the Red Sox here this afternoon. Tijuan Walker has allowed seven home runs over six starts this season with lefties owning a .477 slugging percentage and righties owning a .515 slugging percentage against the Phillies right-handed pitcher. We also can go back to the Pirates here today as they face a lefty in Yusei Kikuchi who got ripped in his last start for five runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings. Pirates are a top 10 offense against lefties this season. For pitching, it's Joe Ryan against the Guardians but the SP2 on today's slate can see us go in a few different directions.

Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups

Joe Ryan, SP Minnesota Twins

Ryan should be the top pitcher on today's slate for a few reasons. The first, the Guardians this season rank 29th in wOBA, 29th in ISO, 29th in OPS, 28th in average and 30th in slugging percentage against right-handed pitching this season. That's what we call “not good” when analyzing a team's matchup against a pitcher. That offense now faces a pitcher in Joe Ryan that has allowed no more than one earned run in four of his six starts this season and is coming off six shutout innings against the White Sox.

Mason Miller, SP Oakland Athletics

Miller threw seven no-hit innings in his most recent outing and was being overshadowed in that start by the Mariners rookie Bryce Miller who had a perfect game going in his MLB debut at the same time. Mason never lost the no-hitter, being lifted due to his pitch count but he gets a chance to extend his hitless inning streak here today against a Royals team that is certainly starting to wake up but still strikes out at a 25% clip against right-handed pitching and Miller has some electric stuff on the mound.

Ryan Feltner, SP Colorado Rockies

Oh boy, listen, I realize the Rockies are actually the biggest underdogs on the board but the Mets are low-key mid this season, especially against right-handed pitching and we just saw a southpaw in Austin Gomber shut them down yesterday. When away from Coors Field this season we've seen Feltner put up some decent numbers, averaging 16.1 fantasy points over four starts while striking out 24 over 20 innings. For $6,100, I think we can get it to play.

Recommended DFS Hitters

Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups

Masataka Yoshida, OF Boston Red Sox

Yoshida will re-enter the Red Sox lineup today after a rest day on Saturday as he looks to build upon his 15-game hitting streak. After a slow adjustment to MLB pitching, the Japanese rookie is living up to the hype, hitting .400 with 1.192 OPS over his last 10 games. As I mentioned, Walker is getting hit by both lefties and righties this season, making the Red Sox my favorite team stack on the slate.

Brent Rooker, OF Oakland Athletics

Just going to throw my hands up at this point. I've said it more than a few times this season how every year the A's seem to have a random player go and hit 25+-homers and this year that guy is going to be Rooker. Against lefties this season he is hitting .333 with a .778 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.165.

Rodolfo Castro, SS Pittsburgh Pirates

Castro is hammering southpaws this season, hitting .353 with an OPS of 1.145 and a .706 slugging percentage. All three of his home runs this season have also come against left-handed pitching. This is no fluke either as the Pirates infielder had a .600 slugging percentage and an OPS of .906 last season against southpaws as well.

Enmanuel Valdez, 2B Boston Red Sox

I don't really understand why he is still soo cheap. In his 10 games this season with the Red Sox he is hitting .343 with four runs, one home run, six RBI and three stolen bases with an OPS of .343 and a slugging percentage of .875. Valdez was one of the prospects acquired by Boston from the Astros in the Christian Vasquez trade last season and he profiled as a bat-first infielder and so far that bat is looking more than major league ready.
