Happy Mothers Day to all whom are celebrating. Per usual, we have some day baseball here on Mothers Day with some pink hats and pink bats sure to be shown out on the field this afternoon. With nine games on the DraftKings main slate we have a pretty solid day with only one game dealing with any sort of weather issues but even that should play on here.

MLB Weather: Today, 5/12

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Baltimore Orioles

  • Looking at some rain in the forecast here which may cause a delayed start, more than likely will play through some showers here today in this matchup but no real concern for a PPD.

MLB DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts

Per usual we are looking at the pitchers here, both for who to put into our lineups and then in turn who we are looking to stack against. Given that this slate has Alek Manoah taking the mound against the Minnesota Twins, you know that the Twins will be very popular today. We also have an elite pitching matchup with Zack Wheeler taking on the Miami Marlins here. Wheeler figures to be the chalk play of the day.

Core MLB DFS Pitchers

Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia Phillies

Wheeler is an early candidate for the Cy Young award, boasting a 1.64 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP through his eight starts this season. He also has 63 strikeouts over 49.1 innings. The frustrating thing with Wheeler this season has been his record, as despite elite numbers, he is just 4-3 on the season. This matchup against Miami should put him in a better spot to get those much needed win points this afternoon.

Luis Gil, New York Yankees

I know the Rays offense is slowly starting come alive a bit but Gil and the Yankees are still heavy favorites here today and Gil himself has been a revelation on the mound this season, posting a 2.92 ERA and ad 1.11 WHIP while striking out 45 over 37 innings.  The Rays own just a .303 wOBA and a .239 batting average vs RHP this season with a 23.4% strikeout rate.

MacKenzie Gore, Washington Nationals

As a Red Sox fan it pains me to suggest a starting pitcher against them but their lineup just continues to be a bit average at best and despite some minor recent improvements they still boast the leagues highest strikeout rate against left-handed pitchers at 29.5%.  Over the last two weeks that number is slightly higher, sitting at 30.1% while owning just a .312 OBA and a .093 ISO which is also poor.

Note: Will Be Updated as Official Starting Lineups Are Released

Kyle Tucker, Houston Astros

Tucker is hitting leadoff today for the Astros with Jose Altuve out of the lineup. The man is on quite a power surge right now, homering in four of the last five games. His matchup against Jack Flaherty is one to watch as Flaherty has been an elite strikeout pitcher this season and off to a great start with the Tigers this year but last season left-handed hitters smashed him to the turn over a .372 wOBA and a .481 slugging percentage while Tucker this season has a .391 wOBA and a .273 ISO against righties.

Max Kepler, Minnesota Twins

You can pretty much play the entire Twins lineup today if you wish against Alek Manoah but Kepler is the cover boy today and he is on quite a run, hitting .457 with two homers and an OPS of 1.341 over the last 10 games.

Willy Adames, Milwaukee Brewers

At home against a righty means Adames is in play here today. It isn't a secret that Adames has a ton of power and loves the hitters backdrop in his home ballpark. His splits tell the same story as well with Adames hitting .313 with a .313 ISO and a .454 wOBA this season against righties at home.

Nico Hoerner, Chicago Cubs

Not really sure why the price tag isn't catching up but I'll take the discount here with Hoerner who is leading off against southpaw Bailey Falter here today. Hoerner is hitting .300 with an OPS of .941 over the last 10 games with two homers and three stolen bases.
