College Football PrizePicks CFB Top Picks Week 5

Devon Achane (Texas A&M) – OVER 97.5 Rush+Rec Yards

Unfortunately, Texas A&M lost star wide receiver Ainias Smith to a season-ending injury last weekend. His absence should result in A&M feeding its other stud playmaker with Devon Achane becoming even more important to the offense. The running back was already a top backfield talent in the SEC, but he'll likely be used in the passing game more starting this week. Achane just racked up 159 rushing yards and 15 receiving yards last week vs. Arkansas and had 88 rushing yards and 42 receiving yards the week before against Miami (FL). The combined yardage is nice, but the 22 total touches in both games is a sign that A&M was already making a point to get Achane the ball as much as possible after he only had 11 touches in the upset loss to Appalachian State. We should expect 25 touches or more from him now that Smith is out, including plenty of involvement in the passing game as the Aggies look to keep up with a quick-strike Mississippi State attack.

Trey Palmer (Nebraska) – OVER 65.5 Receiving Yards & OVER 5.5 Receptions

PrizePicks continues to post low lines for Trey Palmer despite his consistent production. He's a top playmaker and receiving target for Casey Thompson in this revamped Nebraska offense under OC Mark Whipple, who's using Palmer in a similar manner as Jordan Addison last year. Palmer has gone over 65.5 receiving yards in all four games thus far and over 5.5 receptions in three of four. In fact, he has games with eight and 10 receptions to go well over that mark. This week, Palmer and Nebraska face an Indiana defense that's allowing 278.8 passing yards per game (114th nationally) and has given up plenty of big games to opposing wideouts this season. Plus, this game should be high-scoring and back-and-forth with a total of 61 between two faster-paced offenses and two subpar defenses.

Richard Reese (Baylor) – OVER 74.5 Rushing Yards

Baylor starting running back Taye McWilliams is expected out for a third straight game with a head injury, so Reese is in line to lead the Bears' backfield once again. The true freshman has filled in very well in McWilliams' absence these past two games. He racked up 156 rushing yards in a blowout win over Texas State and then had 78 rushing yards in last week's victory over Iowa State – obviously going over this 74.5 line both times. He now gets a matchup vs. an Oklahoma State defense that gave up 118 rushing yards to Arizona State's Xazavian Valladay earlier this year. The OK State defense also got torched for 44 points and 424 total yards by Central Michigan. This is a very unproven defense and could have its hands full with Baylor here. It's also a good sign that the Bears trust Reese to handle a workhorse workload with 19 and 21 carries in the past two games.

Spencer Petras (Iowa) – UNDER -10.5 Rushing Yards

It wouldn't be a PrizePicks article if we didn't suggest taking the under on a negative rushing yards prop. Yep, we're banking on Spencer Petras to finish with negative rushing yards in the double-digits. Remember, sacks count as negative rushing yards in college football and that's what we're targeting here. Michigan's defense sacked Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa three times last week and had seven sacks back in Week 1 against Hawaii. Meanwhile, Petras has been sacked nine times through four games with less than -10.5 rushing yards in three of those four. Michigan is the toughest defense Petras and Iowa has faced thus far and we should see multiple sacks in this matchup. Plus, Petras doesn't scramble often or keep it on designed runs ever. He finished last season with -109 rushing yards, if you can believe that.
