2022 Player Outlook
Severino finally made his long-awaited return to the mound for the first time since 2019 in late September. He pitched just six innings in four appearances, but his fastball was still a couple of ticks away from his pre-TJ surgery velocity. However, the fact that he was able to rare back, face live hitters and reach the mid 90 mph range with his fastball was encouraging. The Yankees need to get some innings out of Severino this season, but they’ll also need to be extremely cautious with him. His health remains a concern as his 2021 debut was delayed multiple times due to groin, elbow, and shoulder issues. His innings pitched will be closely monitored.
