2023 Player Outlook

Jordan Lyles signed with the Royals in December on a two-year contract. This is a pitcher that has played for seven teams over 12 big league seasons and each team was in some sort of rebuilding phase. His recent stint with the Orioles may have been one of the best teams he’s pitched for (83-79) and now he moves on to a Royals team that lost 97 games last year and brings back to the same squad in 2023. The veteran right-hander was 12-11 in 2022 with a surprising Orioles team that battled for a wild card throughout the summer. He had a respectable 4.42 ERA/1.39 WHIP and 144/52 K/BB ratio, and the Royals hope they can get the same numbers from the veteran righty. Lyles was signed to be a veteran pitcher that will eat up innings on a young team and if they can get 30 starts and 180 innings out of his arm the deal can be considered a success.
