The NHL has given us just one game this Monday, so that means we are going to be playing a Showdown slate. It can be difficult to build these kinds of lineups, but we’ll look at some general rules to follow, and target some players that should have some success tonight.
The Captain Spot
With this spot being awarded a multiplier, it in many ways is going to be the most important part of your lineup. We have a few sensible candidates for it.
Tkachuk in this matchup holds the most name value, and likely with that the highest ownership. He is a player who will shoot the puck a lot and is capable of getting you plenty of points. He is the safest of options. ($9,800)
Possibly the hottest Ottawa player coming into this game. Norris has five points in his last three games and has played very well since coming back from injury. He plays on Ottawa’s top line and powerplay so he should have the opportunities required to continue to be successful. The only issue with Norris is that he typically doesn’t shoot the puck enough to match Tkachuk’s floor. ($8,400)
Stützle is in a similar position to Norris. He has points in four of his last five games, but he plays fewer minutes than Norris. He's still is on the top power-play, and Stützle is also someone who has no issues driving the play and putting shots on net. He likely sees lower ownership, but is certainly a candidate at a lower price point for the captain spot. ($7,800)
If you’re going to lean toward the Coyotes in this game, I think Keller is the guy you want to lean on most. He has points in five straight games, and he has scored four goals in his last four games as well. He will likely see higher amounts of ownership, though so be aware of that. ($9,000)
The Flex Spots
Using a goalie in his matchup takes on quite a bit of risk. Gustavsson hasn’t won any of his last five starts and hasn’t played well in three of his last four. The other issue that comes along with Gustavsson is that he likely doesn’t see enough shots to make up for any mistakes as Arizona is the lowest-volume shooting team in the league. ($11,000)
If you have to play a goalie Wedgewood would be my choice. Ottawa’s offence can be erratic, and the Sens shoot more than the Coyotes, so Wedgewood has more upside. ($10,600)
Chabot certainly has the upside to be used in the captain spot, as he is the only player in this game who could hit all three bonuses on DraftKings (points, shots, blocked shots). But he also is very inconsistent that way and could also net you just a couple of blocks and shots. ($9,600)
Gostisbehere is another defenceman who can contribute points and he is willing to shoot from time to time as well which is obviously helpful. He has the ceiling, but he doesn’t shoot consistently enough or block enough shots to have a noticeable floor. ($8,000)
Schmaltz has been hot for the Coyotes. He has points in five straight games, which on the surface sounds great, but you do need to keep in mind that most of those points are assists. Schmaltz isn’t a player who typically shoots the puck in volume., so he will need to get you multiple points to ultimately be effective. ($8,200)
Holden fills in that classic defenceman who is inexpensive and blocks shots in space for us on DraftKings. He has blocked three shots or more in three of his last four games and is going to be quite affordable. ($5,400)
Hayton is another nice value option. He has four points in his last three games and has played well for Arizona over the last month. He is value-priced on all sites and could be a player who well exceeds his value. ($4,800)
