NFL Week 9 DFS research starts not with a deep dive into players and weekly match-ups, but in a lesson about restraint. We had a phenomenal week last week and absolutely nailed the value. Absolutely nailed it. Everyone had Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Tony Pollard, but who else also had Alvin Kamara, D'Onta Foreman, Brandon Aiyuk, DJ Moore and Kyle Pitts? I saw emails, messages and screenshots with a lot of green this past week, but you have to remember just how tumultuous NFL DFS has been this season. We've been burned by injuries, we've seen top players throw up inexplicably bad weeks and navigating the DFS terrain has been extremely difficult. So when you get a week like we just had, it is very easy to get swept up in the excitement and throw back all of your winnings as you continue to chase the big payday. You need to maintain your discipline. Maintain the process. Do exactly what you've been doing.

If you feel comfortable enough to increase your stakes, great. We've seen that the lower-stakes contests with their vast number of entrants have higher pay-lines and we've seen winning lineups take down six-figure prizes in high entrance fee contests with scores that would barely cash in the Milly Maker, the Play-Action or any other of those donkey contests. We aren't here to throw our money away like that. We are grinders through and through. So if you won last week, congrats. If you want to increase your stakes, do it. But be sure that you aren't putting more than 25-30% of your bankroll in play. In fact, you should probably pull out some of your winnings and pocket them just to be sure you're not throwing everything back.

Week 9 is already looking pretty tasty with six teams on a bye and more marquee players in the prime-time games. We saw something very similar last week and that means we maintain the process and we take down contests in the same fashion. So let's play it smart and continue our winning trend!

We've still got our 7-day free trial (promo code BENDER) going on right now, so before we get to the players we are studying in this week's DFS Watch List, please allow me to welcome some of the new faces at Fantasy Alarm. Whether you have played daily fantasy football before or not, we appreciate you giving us the opportunity to help. So please allow me to give you the Welcome talk.

“If you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime.”

We take this adage to heart when it comes to playing NFL DFS. The Fantasy Alarm Playbook isn’t just about handing you a list of players and a lineup to use each week. It is designed to help you learn to be a better DFS player. It’s about teaching you the process used in selecting which players to scout and, eventually, which ones to use.

Therefore, we will begin each week with the Weekly NFL DFS Watch List which is designed to keep tabs on marquee names, chalk plays and, of course, the weekly bargains who may not see the same coverage and exposure. This piece will be continuously updated throughout the week, based on the most recent news and injuries, which means you may see a name or two removed as we get closer to Sunday kick-off. You may also see a few late-week additions who pique our interest for some reason too, and by the end of the week, this Watch List will eventually become your Playbook. Again, it’s about teaching you the process.

So what exactly did last week's Playbook deliver? As always, we like to check in to ensure we remain on the right path.

Scoring The Playbook Week 8

Again, it was a fantastic week for the Playbook, but as we noted up above, you cannot get overly excited. You can be happy, but you must rein in some of that enthusiasm. We had a ton of people reach out with big cash winnings and I get the excitement, but you have to maintain the process. We aren't going to 3x so many players each and every week, and when you're looking at a week like this one with six teams on a bye and the Eagles, Chiefs, Ravens and Titans playing in primetime, the player pool narrows and the analysis dives go deeper. As I said last week, we have the advantage in these situations, but you don't want to throw back everything you earned last week just because you got a little over-excited.

And here are the top lineups you could have created on your own using ONLY the players from the Playbook and Dart Board:

All set? Are you ready to start diving into an early look at Week 9 NFL DFS? Let's do it!
