Good morning and welcome to the Value Vault at DFS Alarm. It’s Sunday and we have a nice 9-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel plus Yahoo with all 15. Our MLB Playbook and Cores will give you the top plays but I’m here to try and find that one value that will vault the FAmily past the competition and into the green. So, let’s get this baby open and see what’s in the Value Vault for Sunday afternoon…

PITCHERS

Bryce Elder (Atlanta Braves) $5.0K DK/$29K Yahoo

Elder and teammate Spencer Strider are the first non-first rounders from the 2020 MLB draft to get to The Show. He had an amazing spring training and finished with a 0.00 ERA over 7.2 innings without giving up a hit. His spring success earned an unanticipated call-up to the big-league club, and he limited the Nationals to three hits and one run through the first innings of his debut, before allowing a pair of solo bombs in the sixth. His next start was in San Diego, and he took the loss allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three and walking five. Elder does draw what could arguably be his easiest start of the season as a favorite against a Marlins lineup hitting only .226 as a team and striking out 22% against right-handers. As the lowest-priced pitcher on DraftKings Elder is worth a shot if multi-entering in tournaments.

Chad Kuhl (Colorado Rockies) $5.7K DK/$7.6K FD/$34 Yahoo

Is this a mirage? Chad Kuhl has been splendid over his first two starts with a 1-0 record; 0.87 ERA, nine strikeouts, and 0.87 WHIP. More impressively is how he mowed down the Phillies in his home debut at Coors. The former Pirate tossed six shutout innings in the 4-1 win before leaving the game with tightness in his right hip and right flexor. This is a 25-30 career record pitcher, but he has limited opponents to a .118 average and allowed just two hits in each of the two starts. Today Kuhl faces a Tiger offense in a pitcher-friendly park that may be hungover from the exciting Miggy Cabrera day yesterday and is striking out 22.4% against righties.

HITTERS

Manuel Margot (Tampa Bay Rays) $2.9K DK/$2.9K FD/$12

Margot is off to a nice start to 2021 with a slash line of .316/.381/.342 and should be in the middle of the Rays lineup today against left-hander Rich Hill and the Red Sox. Hill’s better pitching days are behind him and after two starts he has a 7.00 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP with only six strikeouts in nine innings. Today Margot gets the splits advantage as Hill has struggled against right-handed batters since the start of the 2021 season where he has allowed a .323 wOBA/.192 ISO while giving up hard contact over 45.3% of the time and a 40% flyball rate.

Colin Moran (Cincinnati Reds) $2.7K DK/$2.2K FD/$11

Colin Moran joined the Reds after four good seasons as one of the main bats in the Pirates lineup. He is more of a platoon hitter nowadays and I still like the chances of a Moran bomb when he gets up to face a right-handed pitcher. He has a .335wOBA with 40% hard contact against righties and is an experienced veteran hitter that can still put the bat on the ball, especially when facing a non-power pitcher like Adam Wainwright. Moran is batting fifth today and the most appealing part of this value pay is his history against Waino – he is 10-for-29 lifetime (.345). Tournament play only but Moran can be a real sneak today.

Tommy Edman (St. Louis Cardinals) $4.0K DK/$3.4K FD/$18 Yahoo

Tommy Edman has been one of the best hitters in baseball so far this season. He is hitting .341 with 15 hits in 13 games and averaging almost 10 DK fantasy points a game. A slash line of .341/.431/.614 plus 1.045 OPS makes Edman valuable in all formats today. His MaxEV of 112.6 is in the top 6% of MLB and his .459wOBA is in the top3%! The switch-hitting Edman gets is carrying a .227wOBA and 45% hard contact against lefties since the start of last season and today faces young Nick Lodolo. The Reds prospect has allowed 13 hits and five walks over nine innings in his first two major league starts and plenty of runs should be scored today.

Chas McCormick (Houston Astros) $2.7K DK/$2.2K FD/$9.0 Yahoo

Chas McCormick has a nice combo of power and speed and should be in today’s lineup against lefty Yusei Kikuchi. He is off to a nice start with a .313/.333/.375 slash and a solid .746 OPS. More importantly, has been his ability to hit southpaws since becoming a semi-regular in the potent Astros lineup- with a .215 ISO and near-elite 50% fly ball and 49% hard contact when facing lefties. On the other hand, Kikuchi does struggle when facing the right side as he has allowed .213 ISO./.356wOBA and 41% hard contact. Take a look at low-owned Chas McCormick as a one-off or part of your Astro stacks today.
