College Basketball CBB DFS Picks

CBB DFS Top Guards

PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Tristen NewtonUCONNKU960040.46850037.06
If you haven’t noticed, Tristen Newton has been an absolute stud for UConn this year. He’s a legit nightly triple-double threat while averaging 15.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game so far. Newton has DK outputs of 45, 55, and 50 DK in three of the last four games. That GPP upside should be there tonight in a higher-scoring matchup with Kansas. Even on the road here, expect Newton to stuff the stat sheet plenty. He’s tough to pay up for in cash, but we already know the GPP ceiling.
Kevin McCullar Jr.KUUCONN880040.11780033.17
The Kansas offense is leaning very heavily on Kevin McCullar and Hunter Dickinson as the clear top two playmakers this season. As for McCullar, he boasts a 27% usage and 27% shot rate in his point-forward position of sorts. This high-usage role has led to per-game averages of 18.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. He already has multiple triple-doubles and offers one of the strongest cash floors on this slate among top-end guards. UConn is a tough matchup, but McCullar had 40 DK vs Marquette and 47 DK vs Kentucky in recent games.
Tamin LipseyISUDPU860036.57
Tamin Lipsey has been the definition of a box score stuffer for Iowa State this year. The sophomore point guard is averaging 15.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 2.9 steals per game with 34+ DK in all but one game so far. He should keep it going against a bad DePaul team tonight to come through in cash. Lipsey could go overlooked on the DK slate, but he’s a top-tier play.
Boo BuieNWPUR830029.75760027.10
Northwestern’s offense is basically a two-man wrecking crew with Boo Buie and Brooks Barnhizer taking on a ton of usage and shot volume. Both will be in play for cash all season long and both are firmly in our player pool tonight at home despite the tougher matchup vs Purdue. As for Buie, he leads the team in usage and shot rate right now while running the point and he just exploded for 23 points and 39 DK last game. Buie can get rolling offensively tonight similar to how Tyler Kolek put up 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists vs Purdue not too long ago.
Jamal SheadUHXAV750029.61730027.74
Jamal Shead and LJ Cryer headline Houston as a pair of high-usage players in the offense. Both are firmly in play for cash tonight and the road matchup at Xavier shouldn’t scare us off much. Shead might be the safer option running the point. He has 27+ DK in all but one game so far with 36, 33, and 34 DK in the last three. He fills the stat sheet in multiple ways and should do plenty here to anchor cash lineups.
Daniss JenkinsSTJNWVU710029.96720027.18
After transferring from Iona, Daniss Jenkins has been St. John’s top offensive playmaker in the backcourt. He leads the team in both usage and shot rate while running the point and averaging 12.8 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. If you take away his dud last game in a blowout win, Jenkins had 29+ DK in all but one game to start the season. Expect a stat-stuffing effort tonight in a tight matchup vs West Virginia as a safe cash play with affordable prices on both sites.
Meechie JohnsonSCARGW670026.96
On the DK slate, Meechie Johnson presents some great value in a notable pace-boost matchup. GW runs at the 5th-fastest pace in the country while South Carolina sits 306th in tempo. The Gamecocks’ offense basically revolves around Johnson and B.J. Mack and both are in a prime spot here. Johnson has a 28% usage rate and 29% shot rate so far and he’s exploded for 24 points/35 DK and 29 points/40 DK in two of the past three. He can smash the slate with one of those performances tonight and the uptempo matchup encourages it.

CBB DFS Value Guards

Jordan DingleSTJNWVU540017.38490015.47
Jordan Dingle has now seen a big price discount on both sites after mostly underwhelming to start the season. This is a nice buy-low opportunity, though, because Dingle still has plenty of talent and has shown some signs of life in recent games. In St. John’s two tight games vs Utah and Dayton, Dingle scored 18 and 14 points with 22 and 28 DK, respectively. That upside value is there tonight as one of St. John’s top three-point shooters with West Virginia struggling to defend the perimeter shot.
Lance JonesPURNW530020.57540018.59
While Zach Edey and Braden Smith headline Purdue’s offense, Lance Jones has quickly become the third fiddle. The grad transfer was a high-usage playmaker for Southern Illinois over the past four years and has looked comfortable in his secondary role now with the Boilermakers. He just had 15 points and 27 DK last game and has other 20+ DK outputs this season. Jones is one of Purdue’s top three-point shooters and Northwestern has a poor 3-point defense, which gives him GPP upside tonight if he’s hitting from deep. Fletcher Loyer is also a candidate to get hot and smash value.
Myles StuteSCARGW500018.92
If you want cheap GPP exposure to the highest total on the DK slate, Myles Stute is worth a look. The Vandy transfer is starting on the wing for South Carolina and can exceed value with his three-point shooting. Stute is hitting 41% from deep so far and GW is allowing plenty of threes per game. If Stute gets hot from three, there’s GPP upside for 25 DK and 5x return in this pace-boost matchup.
Damian DunnUHXAV430014.82410013.79
After starting the year on the bench, Damian Dunn is now starting for Houston as one of the top secondary playmakers after Shead and Cryer. He hasn’t totally been performing DFS-wise, but he does have DK outputs of 19, 21, and 24 DK this season. Dunn was a stud at Temple before transferring over and it might only be a matter of time until he gets more comfortable in his new role at Houston. He’s now at a season-low price and it’s just too cheap for his talent and potential for 5x return. Emanuel Sharp and Terrance Arceneaux are other Houston values to consider tonight.
Seth WilsonWVUSTJN420016.96430015.03
Seth Wilson is coming off the bench right now but he’s still playing 25-30 minutes per game with WVU essentially running a 6-man rotation. Wilson and Kobe Johnson are also the only guards getting real playing time right now with Kerr Kriisa still suspended. Though he’s not usually heavily involved offensively, Wilson has taken at least 8 shots in all but one game so far with double-digit attempts a few times. He’s one of WVU’s top three-point threats, which gives him value as St. John’s has struggled to defend the three. If he’s hitting from deep, Wilson can exceed value at his very cheap prices.
Hassan DiarraUCONNKU390015.75440015.03
With Stephon Castle still out, Hassan Diarra is playing a key role in UConn’s backcourt rotation. He’s coming off the bench, but Diarra is outperforming starter Solomon Ball despite playing 15-20 minutes per game. In UConn’s two tough matchups so far, Diarra had 26 DK vs Texas and 18 DK vs Indiana – which bodes well for his DFS value tonight in a tight contest vs Kansas. His veteran experience and defensive ability could give him more minutes as well here. He's a decent cash salary-saver at these cheap prices.
Gabe CuppsIUUMD32007.3837006.53
Keep an eye on Xavier Johnson’s status tonight as he’s questionable with a foot injury. If he’s out, then Gabe Cupps could be starting at point guard or at least get more playing time for Indiana. The freshman stepped into 21 minutes last game after Johnson left early and he’d one of IU’s top ball-handlers with Johnson sidelined. There isn’t a ton of GPP upside here, but Cupps can do enough across the board to return value in cash with these dirt-cheap prices.

CBB DFS Top Forwards

PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Zach EdeyPURNW1100042.82920040.43
Even with his expensive prices, especially on DK, Zach Edey has to always be in play when on the slate. The dominant big man is averaging 21.9 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game so far and offers a strong cash floor with his high-usage role in the Purdue offense. You can basically pencil him in for 30-40 DK every game and he has 37+ DK in all but one contest so far. Northwestern does have a 7-footer but Edey should still do his thing in the paint tonight for one of the top floor/ceiling plays on the slate. If you have the salary to make it work, fit him into cash lineups.
Hunter DickinsonKUUCONN1000046.68900042.77
Surprise, surprise. Hunter Dickinson has been a stud for Kansas this year. He’s averaging 21.7 PPG and 12.7 RPG with four 50+ DK outputs in the past five games. Dickinson always presents a mismatch down low and opposing frontcourts are struggling to contain him. UConn does present the toughest test so far this year, but it’s impossible to ignore Dickinson’s GPP ceiling to smash the slate when he’s dominating inside on both ends. It’s a hard decision choosing between Edey and Dickinson tonight, but the latter could easily be the slate’s highest scorer.
Jesse EdwardsWVUSTJN950035.42800032.63
West Virginia vs St. John’s features a fascinating big-man matchup between Jesse Edwards and Joel Soriano. Honestly, either one could get the upper hand in the battle down low and force the other into foul trouble. Both are GPP targets on this slate, especially with Edey and Dickinson in action. Edwards has a safer cash floor because West Virginia’s offense leans on him and Quinn Slazinski heavily with a very tight rotation. Edwards is averaging 15.8 PPG and 10.7 RPG with 32+ DK in all but one game. He's a better play on FD with the notable discount.
Malik ReneauIUUMD720028.42720026.87
Malik Reneau was a popular breakout candidate in the preseason and we’ve early signs of his improved play. The sophomore forward leads Indiana in usage, shot, and assist rates this season as the team’s go-to playmaker more often than not. Reneau is averaging 15.3 PPG and filling up the stat sheet in multiple ways with 29+ DK in four of the last five games. He and Kel’el Ware should have an advantage inside tonight against Maryland’s undersized and poor defensive frontcourt. Reneau is at a great price point for cash lineups and he should be even more involved offensively if Xavier Johnson is out.
B.J. MackSCARGW710026.83
As mentioned above, South Carolina gets a big pace-boost tonight against George Washington. While Meechie Johnson is a great play, so is B.J Mack in this matchup. The big man leads the team in usage (29%) and shot rate (34%) this season as he has the offensive versatility to score inside and from deep. Mack has 27+ DK in four of the last five with outbursts of 43 and 36 DK. His DK price is very affordable for potentially the same or better production than other high-priced forwards tonight.
Alex KarabanUCONNKU700027.29730025.50
Donovan Clingan is also a GPP option from UConn’s frontcourt, but he has a tough head-to-head matchup with Hunter Dickinson tonight. Instead, look to Alex Karaban for likely the same or better DFS production as Clingan with not as much foul risk. Karaban is averaging 14.6 PPG and 5.7 RPG this year and he came up big in UConn’s tough matchup vs Texas with 20 points and 36 DK. He could be a mismatch on the wing against KU here and brings GPP upside for those looking to fade Edey, Dickinson, and others priced higher.

CBB DFS Value Guards

PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Tre KingISUDPU560018.96
DePaul is a very poor rebounding team, so it immediately gives value and upside to Iowa State’s bigs. Tre King is cheap enough to offer GPP potential as one of ISU’s top rebounders right now. When King is racking up 7-8 rebounds, getting a few steals, and potentially scoring double-digit points, we’ve seen him put up 25 DK or more already this year. That type of stat line is very possible against a bad DePaul squad that struggles inside.
Samson JohnsonUCONNKU510018.14510017.39
Even in his backup role to Donovan Clingan at center, Samson Johnson presents some value. First off, there’s a decent chance Clingan gets into foul trouble or simply struggles against Hunter Dickinson tonight. If that’s the case, then Johnson could be thrust into a bigger role. Either way, Johnson has been efficient in his limited role off the bench and he’s playing well lately with 31, 15, and 25 DK in the past three games.
Mackenzie MgbakoIUUMD470014.67450013.83
Mackenzie Mgbako has had a slow start to the season but he also just posted his best stat line. The talented freshman had 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 29 DK in a season-high 31 minutes last game, which coincided with Xavier Johnson getting hurt. Mgbako came to IU with plenty of hype after de-committing from Duke in the summer. Ideally, that latest performance can jumpstart him into being a bigger part of Indiana’s offense – especially if Johnson is out tonight. At sub-5k on both sites, Mgbako has the GPP upside for 5x return or better.
Ofri NavehWVUSTJN460015.04460013.87
Like Seth Wilson above, Ofri Naveh is another value from West Virginia who’s locked into playing time right now in a 6-man rotation. Naveh has also started the past four games with the freshman being a versatile wing player for WVU. He’s not taking a ton of shots, but he does tend to do just enough in ancillary stats to return value. Naveh is averaging 17.6 DK in his last four games since entering the starting rotation. You could do a lot worse in this price range for cash lineups.
Jordan GeronimoUMDIU450016.39440015.40
Jordan Geronimo has moved back into Maryland’s starting lineup and has 24, 28, and 21 DK in these last three starts. Geronimo isn’t usually involved much offensively, but he has been more active scoring-wise lately with 9, 14, and 15 points in these past three games. The starting role has clearly made him a better DFS option. Tonight, Maryland will need his versatility on both ends in this matchup, especially since the Indiana transfer has plenty of experience playing in the Hoosiers’ building. Revenge game, anyone?
