Golden State Warriors @ New Orleans Pelicans +6 T: 231

The Warriors looked like they were going to sweep the Pelicans after the way the dominated Games 1 and 2 of the series but they found themselves on the other end of a blowout in Game 3 which makes Game 4 all that much more interesting.  In Game 3 we saw Rajon Rondo dish out 21 assists while pulling down 10 rebounds.  Of course, he also shot 2-for-11 from the floor in typical Rondo fashion but as long as he is playing at this level in terms of ball distribution the Pelicans have a real chance.  The leader of the Pelicans is of course Anthony Davis and he continued his domination of the Warriors as he scored 33 points with 18 rebounds and four steals.  Jrue Holiday finished with 21 points with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks to finish second in scoring while Nikola Mirotic notched a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.  Ian Clark came off the bench to score 18 points.  For the Warriors, Klay Thompson scored a team high 26 points.  Steph Curry played 29 minutes, scoring 19 points with six rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks.  Kevin Durant scored just 22 points in 35 minutes and Draymond Green fell an assist shy of a triple-double, scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.  Limiting secondary scoring output will be the key for the Warriors in Game 4 if they hope to head back to Golden State with a chance to close out the series while the Pelicans need to play their game and feed the ball to Anthony Davis instead of trying to get themselves in a shootout with one of the all-time great shooting teams.

Pre-Game Props

Q1. The last made shot is a two-pointer.

I am going with a NO for my answer here.  Both the Warriors and Pelicans are very reliant on the three-point shot and a Steph Curry, Klay Thompson or Jrue Holiday three-pointer to end the first quarter is certainly viable.

Q2. The first made shot of the 1st Quarter is a three-pointer.

So I am actually going to go with a NO here for my answer as I can see the Pelicans winning the tip and Anthony Davis scoring the first two points of the game for New Orleans.  In Game 3 there was not a made three-pointer until six minutes into the game.

Q3. Anthony Davis outscores Kevin Durant in the 1st Quarter.

I am a big fan of these types of props when it pits player against player.  In Game 3 Anthony Davis had just three-points in the 1st Quarter while Kevin Durant had 10 points.  Durant has also outscored Davis in the 1st Quarter in two of the three games thus far so I am actually going to go with Durant outscoring Anthony Davis again here and going with a No for this prop.

Q4. New Orleans Pelicans lead the Golden State Warriors at the end of the 1st Quarter.

As much as I like the Pelicans and I have picked them to be my upset team in the Western Conference I just do not think they have the consistent fire power to handle the Warriors when they are at full health.  I am going with a NO here and say that the Warriors will jump out to an early lead in this contest.

Q5. Both teams score by the 11:00 mark of the 1st Quarter.

I am going to go with YES for my answer here.  I can see both teams scoring within the first minute of the game.  Now, this did not happen in Game 3 as the Warriors did not score until the 9:46 mark of the 1st Quarter but this game has a 231 total so points will be scored early and often IMO.

Q6. Golden State Warriors win the opening tip.

The Pelicans have won just one tip through the first three games which is a bit surprising seeing as they have Anthony Davis taking the jump.  I am rolling with Davis here to win the tip and the Pelicans to score first so I will be saying NO for this prop.

Players to Watch

New Orleans Pelicans

Anthony Davis:  You can’t blame Davis for the Pelicans being down in this series as he has been the best player in the series, averaging 26.3 points, 14.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.7 blocks and 3.0 steals.  The Warriors can put Kevin Durant on him to match the size and Draymond Green can match the physicality but ultimately AD is going to get his and the Warriors are accepting of that fact.

Jrue Holiday: Holiday is really the key to the series for the Pelicans.  If he can continue to be an elite secondary scoring option like he has been for most of this season then New Orleans has the ability to hang.  Holiday is averaging 18.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals but he is shooting just 30-percent from three-point range which is lower than his regular season number.

Rajon Rondo: Playoff Rondo is in full effect as he is averaging 11.7 points, 14.7 assists, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.  If Rondo scores it is an added bonus for New Orleans but his ability to be the floor general and get Anthony Davis and the rest of the offense open looks is where he can really impact the game.

Nikola Mirotic: Mirotic is averaging a double-double this series, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 boards per game.  He is shooting 41-percent from three-point range which is key as teams focus on stopping Davis and Holiday when they drive to the hoop Mirotic is has been an effective kick out option.

Golden State Warriors

Kevin Durant: Durant is averaging 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per game this series.  When he is matched up with Anthony Davis he can struggle but otherwise there is nobody on the Pelicans roster that handle him.

Steph Curry:  Curry is averaging 23.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.5 steals in the two games against the Pelicans this series.  He is coming off an injury so the Warriors have not tried to over work him and so far they have not had to.  Curry does not need much time to put up a lot of points and his 42-percetn shooting from three-point range is on the mark with his seasonal average.

Klay Thompson: Thompson is averaging 21 points a game during this series with the Pelicans but is shooting just 35.9-percent from the field which is about 13-percent lower than his seasonal mark.  He will continue to be a threat from the outside and play elite defense on Jrue Holiday.

Draymond Green: Green is averaging 15.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, 10.7 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.3 steals per game this series.  He was a huge reason for the Warriors two blowout wins in Game 1 and Game 2 but in Game 3 he struggled, shooting just 37.5-percent from the floor after shooting 55.6-percent and 63.6-percent from the floor the previous two games.  If Green can get back to being an efficient scorer I am not sure the Pelicans can win this game.
