2023 Player Outlook
It was an absolute breakout year for Alcantara that resulted in the 2022 NL Cy Young Award. He posted 228.2 innings pitched including six complete games — which in this day and age is a ton. While the strikeouts dropped, rate-wise, from 2021, so did the walks and obviously, we’ll take the better ratios and wins and innings over a tad fewer strikeouts per game. It’s getting tough to think of 2021 as anything other than a career year which leads us to the conclusion that 2023 will be a bit of a regression across the board. We’d expect to see his ERA back in the low-3.00s rather than the mid-2.00s considering his FIP, xFIP, and SIERA from 2021 ranged between 2.99-3.42. Even with a 3.10-3.20 ERA and about 200 innings, he’s still a top-10 starter in fantasy baseball heading into 2023.
