Friday brought us an electric set of matches as the opening of the World Championship took off. The Eastern Regions established dominance, with LEC and LCS losing every matchup against LPL and LCK matchups. Teams like T1, Damwon Gaming, and Royal Never Give Up all looked to be in prime form in their first match, but each team has six total games to play and there is a lotta ball game left. Who stands out today? Let’s dive in and find out!

Game #1: Rogue (+150) v DRX (-200)

Game Breakdown: Rogue gets to cut their teeth against the fourth seed of the LCK on Saturday. Rogue finally were able to lock up their first European championship but they have to face down the only undefeated team in the play-in stage in DRX. RGE’s mid (Larssen) has to put up a solid performance in lane against the Korea menace, Zeka. Zeka (who has been seen as the second coming of Faker) has been one of the brightest spots on this DRX roster and will win the side lanes for his teammates when he gets ahead.

Favorite Picks: Zeka (DRX: $11,100/$7,400), Pyosik (DRX: $6,600), BeryL (DRX: $5,600)

Value Picks: Odoamne (RGE: $5,600), Comp (RGE: $7,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: DRX

Game #2: Evil Geniuses (+161) v G2 (-210)

Game Breakdown: Looking at each of these teams' losses yesterday, you have to have more confidence in EG. There is a case to be made that two mistakes in the late game are the reasons they did not beat JDG on Friday. On the other hand, G2 looked lost and hopeless against Damwon. I have liked how EG has played out their matches and their ADC (Kaori) has been gelling really well with the rest of the team. G2 relies too heavily on Caps to win games; we see that if he is kept in check, G2 cannot win.

Favorite Picks: Flakked (G2: $11,100/$7,400), BrokenBlade (G2: $6,400), Caps (G2: $7,200)

Value Picks: Inspired (EG: $6,400), Kaori (EG: $6,400)

Cann’s Match Pick: Evil Geniuses

Game #3: Fnatic (+400) v T1 (-600)

Game Breakdown: I will note that Fnatic has looked better than I have given them credit for. That being said, T1 is looking unstoppable in this group. Faker set the standard for mid lane play on Friday as he styled on Edward Gaming. I think the real key with be Zeus in the top lane and his ability to win in the 1 on 1 against Wunder. Fnatic won’t have the firepower to pull themselves back from a deficit like they had against Cloud9 on Friday.

Favorite Picks: Gumayusi (T1: $11,400/$7,600), Zeus (T1: $7,000), Oner (T1: $7,200), Keria (T1: $5,800)

Value Picks: Razork (FNC: $5,200)

Cann’s Match Pick: T1

Game #4: Cloud9 (+305) v Edward Gaming (-450)

Game Breakdown: Cloud9 is a great team and their loss to Fnatic on Friday is more about the draft and less about their ability to play. Their ability to play looked to be on par with what EDG put on against T1. It is hard to fully judge EDGs players though because T1 looked too good. EDG will want to play through Viper, so it will be important for C9 to protect the Zven/Berserker bottom lane. Blaber probably won’t be enough to do it, so Jensen will need to be in a winning lane set up to help out his bottom lane.

Favorite Picks: Viper (EDG: $12,000/$8,000), Scout (EDG: $11,400/$7,600), Edward Gaming ($5,600)

Value Picks: Fudge (C9: $5,400), Jensen (C9: $6,000), Berserker (C9: $6,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: Edward Gaming

Game #5: Top Esports (-1100) v GAM Esports (+625)

Game Breakdown: There is no reason that TOP should struggle here. Vietnam’s GAM is a feisty team but they don’t have the skill to beat JackeyLove in the bottom lane and Wayward in the top lane. Levi (jungle) is GAMs best player and he has to go up against the best jungler in the world, Tian. Watch out for this to be the bloodiest game on the slate and have big numbers across the board.

Favorite Picks: JackeyLove (TES: $12,300/$8,200), Wayward (TES: $7,200), Tian (TES: $7,600)

Value Picks: Levi (GAM: $5,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: Top Esports

Game #6: Damwon Gaming (+140) v JD Gaming (-175)

Game Breakdown: This is a possible finals matchup with a revitalized DWG taking on the top of the LPL in JD Gaming. JD Gaming showed how good they are in team fights against EG, by flipping the script and winning when behind. Damwon showed a clean view of the game as they dismantled G2. Be watchup on how Kanavi can put pressure on Canyon, the jungle matchup will be key in figuring out who walks away first place in this group!

Favorite Picks: Hope (JDG: $11,700/$7,800), 369 (JDG: $6,600),

Value Picks: Canyon (DWG: $5,800), ShowMaker (DWG: $6,400), Kellin (DWG: $5,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: JD Gaming
