We are now in the back half of the Group Stage and each group will have one day a piece to determine who moves on to the Knock-Out Stage! The biggest story here is how close it is between the LPL, LCK, and LEC representatives. The overall first seed in the group (LCS’ Champion - Cloud9) has yet to win a game and will be automatically knocked out if they lose a single match today. The other three teams have all beaten another top team but lost to the other making for critical matches to be played out. This breakdown will give a brief breakdown of what I saw last week and how I think the matches will play out today! Let’s dive in!

League of Legends DFS Breakdown

1st Place: Edward Gaming (5-1)

Breakdown: I think once this team was rolled by T1 in their first game, they settled in nicely. Across the map, EDG has the most consistent roster with tempered expectations of each player. Viper is their main damage dealer but they also don’t draft team compositions that put too much pressure on him, which is key. Oddly enough, Flandre (not Zeus), has been the best-producing top laner in the group which is a huge upside for this LPL team. If they continue the level of play from last weekend, this team should go 3-0 on Thursday.

Players to watch: Viper ($11,00/$7,800), Jiejie ($7,000), Meiko ($5,800)

Projected outcomes of matches: C9-Win, T1-Win, FNC-Win

2nd Place: T1 Esports (4-2)

Breakdown: There is a real likelihood that T1 could flip the script on me and they are the team that goes 3-0 on Thursday. Faker, in his game against EDG, showed a flash of his old mechanical brilliance. If he can be more of a carry threat for this team, a lot more unlocks for this T1 squad. Right now they feel really dependent on Gumayusi carrying the late-game damage, making for dangerous team fights if T1 is behind at all. I like Oner to also continue his success from the first weekend and establish control against most of the other junglers.

Players to watch: Gumayusi ($11,100/$7,400), Zeus ($6,200), Faker ($7,200), T1 ($5,200)

Projected outcomes of matches: C9-Win, EDG-Loss, FNC-Win

3rd Place: Fnatic (3-3)

Breakdown: This may be a rough day for the European representatives. I think they are at 2-1 right now because of the playout of their star mid-laner, Humanoid. The problem? Humanoid is a streaky player (to say the least) and has gone through periods where he disappears entirely. If Cloud9’s Jensen can show up in any form today, Humanoid could have a completely flipped script from last weekend. I am also really worried about the state of the bottom lane, more specifically their support. Hylissang has been the victim of being the first death in the majority of the games he has played here at the World Championship and there is a real risk he continues to be punished on Thursday.

Players to watch: Humanoid ($10,500/$7,000), Razork ($6,400), Upset ($7,200)

Projected outcomes of matches: T1-Loss, EDG-Loss, C9-Loss

4th Place: Cloud9 (1-5)

Breakdown: The LCS teams have been hard to write about. I do think they will scratch out one win on Thursday but I do not see them running the gauntlet and winning 3+ games to get out of this group. Their bottom lane of Berserker and Zven has been mediocre at best and their top laner (Fudge) has been nothing short of a liability. Unless something dramatically improved from last weekend to today, fade Cloud9 as much as possible.

Players to watch: Jensen ($6,800), Berserker ($6,800)

Projected outcomes of matches: T1-Loss, EDG-Loss, FNC-Win
