While there has been some pretty big disappointments, I feel good heading into the weekend. I was really proud to be heavily invested in Dustin Johnson, Steve Wheatcroft, Keegan Bradley, Harold Varner and I swear that Robert Garrigus nearly made my playbook but I backed out last minute. Lets keep the good times rolling into the weekend at the RBC Canadian.

Three-time major winner Vijay Singh has withdrawn from the field for next week's Korn Ferry Tour event in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Singh received some scrutiny when his name first popped up for the first Korn Ferry event in more than three months, given his lengthy career and high standing on the PGA Tour's career all-time earnings list. But his lifetime Tour membership doesn't get him into the Charles Schwab Challenge, thereby opening the door to potentially playing on the developmental circuit at a facility where he regularly practices. But with the entry deadline still days away, Singh has taken his name out of consideration for the newly-minted Korn Ferry Challenge on the Dye Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass. Instead his return to competition will likely come the following week at the RBC Heritage. Singh, 57, has made just one PGA Tour cut in nine starts dating back to last year, that coming at the 2019 Honda Classic where he finished sixth.

The PGA Tour is reportedly considering an additional event in Columbus, Ohio, to take the place of the recently-canceled John Deere Classic.

The Deere was originally slated for July 9-12, the week before the rescheduled Memorial Tournament. But the Tour has made it clear they will field a replacement event in lieu of a trip to TPC Deere Run, and a fortnight in Ohio appears to be a strong contender. While it remains unclear if Muirfield Village Golf Club would host both events, including the Memorial where Patrick Cantlay will defend, a second Columbus-area event would remove some logistical variables by removing travel demands for an additional week. But other options currently on the table reportedly include TPC Sawgrass, a return to Firestone in Akron, or Keene Trace Golf Club in Kentucky, which was originally scheduled to host the Barbasol Championship before the event was wiped out because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The John Deere Classic won't be played as scheduled in July, and the PGA Tour is working on finding another event to take its spot on the revamped schedule.

This was expected to be the 50th playing of the event, and the 21st edition at TPC Deere Run. The tournament was slated for July 9-12, the fifth event of the Tour's revised schedule and potentially the first event that could have included on-site fans. Instead it has been canceled entirely given the expectation that Illinois will still be enforcing coronavirus restrictions on gatherings of more than 50 people by event week. The Deere will return to the calendar the following year, but in the interim the Tour is working on finding a new event to take its place. An ESPN report cited TPC Sawgrass as a possible venue, but a Tour statement added only that details on venue and location will be provided "in the near future." Dylan Frittelli earned his first Tour victory last year at TPC Deere Run and will now defend his title in 2021.

The European Tour will return to competition in late July with a run of six straight U.K. events, beginning with the British Masters hosted by Lee Westwood.

Westwood's event at Close House was originally slated for July 30 to August 2, but the revised schedule bumps it up one week to July 23-26. Five more U.K. events will follow as the circuit looks to limit issues with travel and logistics, shifting to Forest of Arden and Hanbury Manor in England. The "U.K. Swing" will then head to a pair of former Ryder Cup venues, with Celtic Manor in Wales hosting two different events in consecutive weeks followed by The Belfry. Tour officials also locked in dates for some key late-season events, with the Scottish Open and BMW PGA Championship back on the schedule in mid-October and the Nedbank Golf Challenge moved to Dec. 3-6. The fourth and final Rolex Series event, the DP World Tour Championship, will be held Dec. 10-13 and will mark the conclusion of a unique 2020 season.

England's Matthew Fitzpatrick has flown back to the U.S. and is spending a two-week quarantine period at his rental home in Florida ahead of a return to competition.

Fitzpatrick will be part of the Tour's return next month at the June 11-14 Charles Schwab Challenge, but in order to play he first must has to spend two weeks in quarantine at his Florida rental home after flying in last week from the U.K. The former U.S. Amateur champ has been able to get in some light practice despite the quarantine conditions, which is an improvement from his home setup in England which included hitting balls into a net. Fitzpatrick is ranked No. 25 in the world, was a runner-up earlier this year in Abu Dhabi and has missed only one cut since February 2019. He expects to play each of the first three Tour events, going from Colonial to Hilton Head and Connecticut before returning home to potentially face another two-week quarantine upon touching down in England.

The PGA Tour has sent a memo to players in advance of next month's Charles Schwab Challenge, with details ranging from lodging options to meals that can be expected on-site at Colonial.

The June 11-14 event will mark the Tour's first official competition since The Players was canceled after the opening round on March 12. The Tour hopes to create a "bubble" of protection for players, caddies and staff upon resumption of competition following the COVID-19 pandemic, and it has offered players four area hotels in Fort Worth where they will be encouraged to stay. Players will also receive only grab-and-go meals at the course given sanitation concerns, and both players and caddies have been advised to begin administering the at-home coronavirus tests that have been mailed out, the results of which will be required before they arrive in Fort Worth. Kevin Na will defend his title against a loaded field that is expected to include Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas among others.

Days after his star-studded charity match with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson shared that he would welcome the option to wear a microphone inside the ropes during a PGA Tour event.

Mickelson and quarterback Tom Brady weren't able to keep pace with Woods and Peyton Manning, losing on the 18th hole Sunday at Medalist. But all four players wore microphones during the event, an innovation that received ample praise. Mickelson said he'd be "open" to the idea of wearing a microphone at a PGA Tour event, although he noted that the lack of a partner could cut down on the opportunities for banter. Microphones won't be part of his wardrobe at the Charles Schwab Challenge, where Lefty will join a stacked field as the PGA Tour returns to action June 11-14. Mickelson, who will turn 50 next month, won at Colonial in both 2000 and 2008.

Rory McIlroy's caddie, Harry Diamond, will spend his quarantine period in his player's guest house ahead of the PGA Tour's return to competition.

Diamond is one of what the Tour estimates are 35 regular caddies currently living outside the U.S., but he'll make his way into the country in time to be on McIlroy's bag at the Charles Schwab Challenge in two weeks. The world No. 1 will host Diamond in his guest house in Florida for a mandated two-week quarantine period, with the two reuniting for McIlroy's first appearance at Colonial. It'll start a busy stretch for the pair, with the Ulsterman also expected to play the RBC Heritage and Travelers Championship in subsequent weeks as the Tour returns to competition following a three-month hiatus. Diamond and McIlroy have been friends since childhood, and Diamond has been on the bag since McIlroy's notable split with longtime looper J.P. Fitzgerald in 2017. The two have combined to win five PGA Tour events, including the 2019 Players.
