CFB DFS Quarterbacks – Week 5 Friday

PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Michael Penix Jr.UWUCLA850029.281120026.28
Penix Jr. has started the season hot with 300+ passing yards in all four games and a 12:1 TD:INT ratio thus far. He’ll face a UCLA defense that’s still unproven this season and it gave up 31 points to South Alabama a couple weeks ago. Penix should be popular in cash as the headliner for a high-scoring Washington offense that’s favored in the highest total of the slate.
Dorian Thompson-RobinsonUCLAUW810023.961070023.96
DTR has been just decent the last two weeks despite having two favorable matchups back-to-back. However, his regular floor of 20-25 DFS points has been there because of the dual-threat ability. The Washington defense is a much tougher test, but he still has the upside to go off for 30+ DFS points because of his running potential to rack up rushing yards and TDs. You can pair DTR and Penix in the same lineup for cash and feel pretty good about it.
Frank HarrisUTSAMTSU680032.41100026.61
Outside of one down performance on the road at Texas, Harris has been a stud in DFS and real-life this season. In his three other games, the UTSA dual-threat has at least 330 passing yards and three pass TDs in each with some rushing production added in. His legit 30-40 DFS upside is something we can expect in a high-total matchup vs. a Middle Tennessee St defense that hasn’t faced an attack as good as UTSA yet. He’s a nice play on DK with the price differential and could be a popular Super-Flex in cash.
Michael PrattTULUH650022.22940020.83
Houston’s pass defense has been one of the worst in the country this season, ranking 121st nationally with 295 pass yards allowed per game. All four opposing QBs have put up big performances against the Cougars so far and Pratt should follow suit. He’s twice shown the ability to put up 25+ DFS points in favorable matchups this year and brings some rushing upside to the table as well. He can be played in GPP or cash at lower rostership.
Taylen GreenBSUSDSU530030.4850027.40
Green is now the Boise State starting QB with Hank Bachmeier entering the transfer portal. Green showed his DFS upside and dual-threat ability in Week 1 when he put up 30 DK as the starter, featuring 102 rushing yards and two rush TDs. He’s the cheapest QB worth playing on either site and is right on the fringe of being cash viable due to the low-total game. Fire away in GPPs though.

Other QBs to Consider:

  • Doug Brumfield – UNLV (GPP/Cash)
  • Chase Cunningham – MTSU (GPP)

CFB DFS Running Backs – Week 5 Friday

PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Aidan RobbinsUNLVUNM680025.32980023.70
On a slate without any clear top RBs, Robbins leads the way and should be a popular RB1 in cash. The former Louisville transfer has now become a workhorse for UNLV with 30 touches in both of the past two games. He’s racked up 427 rushing yards and eight total TD through four games and should have plenty of success this week. Outside of the stats, Robbins is the lead RB for the biggest favorite on the slate so he should see plenty of work again.
Zach CharbonnetUCLAUW650025900021.33
Charbonnet always has the upside to go for 25+ DK points in any game, like he’s done twice so far this season. However, he’s still a GPP play who could fail to return value like when he had “just” 15 DK in Week 3. On a small slate like this, though, he’s still a top RB option but this matchup vs. Washington will be the toughest he’s faced this year. Limit exposure to GPPs with better cash RB options.
Tyjae SpearsTULUH530019.28930023.27
Spears’ dynamic talent was on full display last week with his 188 total yards, two TD, and 38 DK on 27 total touches. He’s Tulane’s best offensive weapon and should be plenty involved in this matchup vs. a shaky Houston defense. It’s unlikely Spears replicates last week’s performance, but he should return value on his cheap DK price tag. The higher FD salary puts him more as a GPP option there.
Brenden BradyUTSAMTSU590013.95820014.97
Brady could be an under-the-radar option on this slate who could easily outperform Charbonnet or Robbins at lower rostership. Though his 3.4 ypc average is tough to ignore, Brady is UTSA’s clear lead back with Trelon Smith out and he’s locked into 15-20 touches per game in that role for a high-scoring offense. UTSA’s pass-centric offense limits his upside and floor, but he does have 20+ DK in two of four games already. This high-total game script could result in a big performance for GPP consideration.
Frank PeasantMTSUUTSA510017.88660010.67
There aren’t many cheap RBs worth playing on this slate, but Peasant is a nice value on both sites. Middle Tennessee’s lead back will face a poor UTSA rush defense that’s one of the worst in the country this season, allowing 213 rush yards per game. Peasant saw 19 carries for 74 yards and a score last week vs. Miami (FL) and put up 22 and 36 DK in the two prior games in softer matchups. Again, he’s pretty affordable on both sites which should make him a popular RB2 or FLEX in cash lineups.

Other RBs to Consider:

  • Wayne Taulapapa – Washington (GPP)
  • George Holani – Boise State (GPP)
  • Cameron Davis – Washington (GPP)

CFB DFS Wide Receivers – Week 5 Friday

PlayerTeamOpp.DK $DK FPPGFD $FD FPPG
Zakhari FranklinUTSAMTSU750025.32950020.53
Franklin is proving to be one of the surest things in CFB DFS this season. He has at least six catches, 80+ yards and 20+ DK points in all four games so far for a safe floor of production. Then there’s the upside to smash if he finds the end zone a couple times or racks up 10+ catches like his 37 DK performance in Week 2. He’s expensive, but you can trust Franklin to give you 20 DFS points in this high-total matchup.
Nathaniel DellUHTUL740022.4920017.77
Like Franklin, we have Dell as a near-lock to return DFS production as the stud playmaker for Houston’s offense. His floor/ceiling combo rivals any WR in the country and he’s coming off a massive performance of seven catches for 134 yards, a TD, and 29 DK. Load him up in cash lineups as the clear top target for Clayton Tune, which is actually a key difference between him and Franklin – who’s part of a three-headed UTSA receiving corps.
Joshua CephusUTSAMTSU700022.45800015.80
Speaking of that loaded UTSA WR room, Cephus is also a very good play on this slate. He’s a slightly cheaper pairing than Franklin if you want a UTSA receiver with Harris. Or you can jam all three in to stack in GPPs. On his own, though, Cephus is still a solid option with arguably a better floor than Franklin with big-play upside added in. His cash floor of receptions makes him a safer option than De’Corian Clark, who is also a good play but is more suited for GPPs.
Ricky WhiteUNLVUNM630018770014.88
People may avoid White because he was oddly held catchless last game. Still, he’s a top playmaker for UNLV’s offense and has the upside to smash the slate as an athletic mismatch against New Mexico’s weak defense. Count on a bounceback performance, but limit exposure to GPPs because of the low-total game environment with UNLV as a two-touchdown favorite. Plus, he’s not as safe of a play like Dell, Franklin, or Cephus.
Rome OdunzeUWUCLA540020.9810016.90
Jalen McMillan is also a good option, but Odunze is much cheaper on DK and could easily be Washington’s top DFS performer this week. Odunze is coming off a big game vs. Stanford with his eight catches for 161 yards and a TD for 33 DK points. He’s looked like Penix’s favorite receiver at times and is simply too cheap on DraftKings. The FD price tag is more of a decision, but still better play than McMillan.
Jaylin LaneMTSUUTSA530014.37740010.55
If you want some cheap exposure to this high-total game between UTSA and MTSU, then Lane is a solid option. You can also look at England-Chisolm, Gathings, or Ali from the MTSU receiving corps, but Lane is the safest among them. He’s coming off a good game vs. Miami (FL) with four catches and 130 yards and could break off a long TD in this matchup vs. UTSA’s shaky D.
Alex BaumanTULUH30009.753007.70
We mentioned Michael Pratt above as a good play in his favorable matchup, so why not pair with a Tulane pass-catcher in GPPs? Unfortunately, the receiving production is spread around too much to trust any for cash lineups. In tournaments, though, you can look at any of them at affordable price points. Bauman is interesting as a freshman tight end who went for four catches and 57 yards last game while filling in for the injured Will Wallace. That may be the case again here and Bauman could end up being a favorite target for Pratt for a second straight week. He’s so cheap on both sites that he’s worth a flier in GPPs.

Other WRs to Consider:

  • Jalen McMillan – Washington (GPP)
  • De'Corian Clark – UTSA (GPP)
  • Yusuf Ali – MTSU (Cash)
  • DJ England-Chisolm – MTSU (GPP)
  • Ja'Lynn Polk – Washington (GPP)
  • Izaiah Gathings – MTSU (Cash)
