The Chalk

Coors Field

We’ve got a game at Coors tonight, and both teams predictably have top five projected run totals according to Vegas. That said, the starting pitchers in the game are good ones with Kenta Maeda facing Jon Gray , both of whom have an xFIP under 3.60 in their last four starts.

The Dodgers have a whopping nine hitters who have been above average against right-handers like Gray this season, so they present no shortage of options for a stack. They’re led by three lefties, Joc Pederson , Max Muncy and Yasmani Grandal , who have all been at least 45 percent better than average against lefties this season. They should be the core of a Dodgers stack.

The Rockies have fewer obvious targets against a right-handed starter. Lefty Charlie Blackmon is a good option but only has a 111 wRC+ with the platoon advantage this season. David Dahl has been great in limited work with a 152 wRC+ vs. RHP. Trevor Story has been their best right-hander against same-handed pitching this season.

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox check in with the third highest projected total of the evening per Vegas. They’re in Baltimore facing Dylan Bundy , who has a 5.73 ERA and 4.98 xFIP in his last four starts. Bundy has struggled in his career against the Sox with a .370 wOBA allowed to active Sox in 201 combined PA.

Andrew Benintendi has had the most success in extended PA against Bundy with a .463 wOBA in 27 PA. He’s 8-for-23 against Bundy with four extra base hits. Benintendi is great against righties with a 159 wRC+ against them this season, but Mookie Betts and J.D. Martínez are even better with wRC+ marks vs. LHP north of 180. Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland have also been well above average against righties this season.

Not the Chalk

Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays are on the road in Toronto tonight where they’ll face right-hander Marco Estrada . The Rays are getting a positive park shift on the road, and Estrada has the worst xFIP over the last 30 days among all probable starters tonight. He has been back in the rotation for two starts and has managed a 4.09 ERA despite walking more batters than he has struck out. Despite all that, the Rays only have the 15th highest projected run total tonight.

The Rays have a healthy nine guys who have been above average against right-handed pitching this season with at least 100 PA. Below is a listing of those nine from FanGraphs.

Mallex Smith has been their hottest hitter of late, and he’s hitting .386 over the last 30 days. If you shorten the time frame to 15 days, he’s hitting over .400. Bauers and Cron would be preferable to include in the stack if feasible given their power and thus upside. But with so many guys on the team being serviceable against righties, you should be able to build a Tampa stack no matter your positional or budgetary needs.
