Another fantasy week is in the books which means it is time for another addition of the Fantasy Alarm Fantasy Baseball Stock Watch Report.  Let’s look at which players have their values rising and falling since last week.

Rising Stock

Mark Reynolds 1B, WAS- Playing for the Rockies last season Reynolds hit 30 home runs and drove in 97 RBI yet he found himself without a major league contract heading into the 2018 season.  He signed with the Nationals and appeared in 10 games at Triple-A before being called up to replace the injured Ryan Zimmerman . Reynolds put the league on notice with his 2018 debut as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI.  The power has never been a question with Reynolds and those in need of a boost in home runs should look to snag him off the waiver wire.

Trey Mancini OF, BAL- Mancini impressed in 2017, hitting .293 with 65 runs, 24 home runs and 78 RBI. He was a popular pick in the mid-to-late rounds of fantasy drafts this season with an ADP of 167.  Mancini got off to a really slow start this season, as did the rest of the Orioles lineup, but he has started to pick it up of late, hitting .345 with eight runs, three home runs and six RBI. Mancini is also hitting leadoff for the O’s which should help out with his run scoring potential even if his RBI numbers will be a bit suppressed.

Sean Newcomb SP, ATL- Newcomb was a popular sleeper candidate given his strikeout upside, but his control would always be the big question.  After a poor debut in which he allowed five runs over 4.1 innings we have seen Newcomb really be productive, going 4-0 with a 1.70 ERA while striking out 48 over 42.1 innings.  Over Newcomb’s last three starts he has not surrendered a run while striking out 20 over 19 innings. His next start is against the Marlins who he just shutout over six innings in his last start so it’s possible his scoreless innings streak could last through another start.

Falling Stock

Robinson Canó 2B, SEA- At first Cano owners were looking at DL stint after he broke his hand after being hit by a pitch but then the hammer was dropped down this afternoon when it was announced that Cano tested positive for a drug that is commonly used as a masking agent for PED’s.  Cano has stated he will not appeal his suspension and therefore fantasy managers will be without his services for the next 80 games

Danny Duffy SP, KC- WOOF, Duffy has been absolutely horrible this season, going 1-5 with a 6.51 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP.  His ownership levels have dipped below 40-percent in standard leagues which is a tough pill to swallow for those fantasy owners who took him at his ADP of 170. Duffy was shelled for nine earned runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings in his last start and over his last five starts he has allowed 25 runs over 26 innings on 40 hits.

Didi Gregorius 2B, NYY- I’m not sure anybody in baseball got off to a hotter start than Didi as the Yankees second basemen hit .330 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI during the month of April.  However, May has been a completely different story as there may not be a colder player at the plate than Didi as he is hitting just .125 (6-for-48) with zero home runs and one RBI over the last 11 games.  He is currently in a 1-for-35 slump over the last eight games. Those who own Didi may want to leave him on their bench for a few games until he starts to show signs of life.
