Week 8 of the NFL season has six teams on a bye which, obviously limits the options for DFS play. Of course, the wide receiver position is riddled with talent across each of the different pricing tiers, so while we should see some seriously chalky lineups again this week, we’ve got some nice low-cost GPP possibilities here as well. Hopefully the paylines come down a little more this week. Last week was a little crazy. Here’s a look at the Payline Analysis from NFL Week 7 to help you along.

Now here’s the wide receiver data and my recommendations:

Elite Plays

Julio Jones, ATL – Green Bay’s pass defense may rank 10th in the league, but they rank 26th against opposing WR1 and have allowed an average of 104 yards per game to them this season. He’s a must for cash games.

A.J. Green, CIN – If Josh Norman is out, then Green’s value skyrockets and it was pretty damn high to begin with. If Norman does play, I might consider leaving him out and pivoting to Brandon LaFell.

Pricey but Affordable

Mike Evans, TB – He’s a target monster in this offense and is also now grabbing a MAJOR chunk of the red zone looks as well. Oakland ranks 18th against WR1 and is allowing just over 80 yards per game to them.

T.Y. Hilton, IND – Does anyone realize that he’s leading the league in targets through the first seven weeks? He’s going to see a lot of Marcus Peters but the Colts are going to have to get creative since he’s really all they’ve got.

DeAndre Hopkins, HOU – Brock Osweiler looked a little better against Denver on Monday and now gets the 32nd-ranked Lions defense which…for lack of a nicer way to say it…is atrocious. Here’s the breakout you Hopkins owners have been clamoring for all season.

Brandon Marshall, NYJ – We’ve got Ryan Fitzpatrick back under center so, immediately, Marshall gets a little bump in value. Now couple it with facing the Browns who rank 30th against WR1 and give up just over 80 yards per game to them and you’ve got a potential return to the Marshall of old.

Michael Crabtree, OAK – Tampa’s pass defense ranks 17th in the league and they rank 25th against WR2’s this season. They don’t allow big yardage, but they don’t generate much of a pass-rush and they’ve given up 10 touchdowns through the air this season.

Solid Value

Randall Cobb, GB – Three-straight games of double-digit targets and touchdowns in each of his last two. The Falcons rank 29th against receivers coming out of the slot and are allowing roughly 71 yards per game to them this season. With Jordy Nelson not looking so hot, Cobb is going to continue seeing a heavy dose of targets from Rodgers.

Alshon Jeffery, CHI – There’s probably no one more excited about having Jay Cutler back than Jeffery as the two reunite for a tough divisional match-up with the Vikings. There might be some early rust, but Minnesota does rank 15th against WR1 and won’t be double-teaming anyone with Cameron Meredith also running about in the secondary.

Will Fuller, HOU – While I’m all over Hopkins in this match-up, you cannot forget about Fuller and his massive upside. He’s been pretty quiet lately, but he gets to face the Lions who, again, suck against the pass.

Emmanuel Sanders, DEN – He leads the Broncos in yards, touchdowns, targets and red zone looks. Trevor Siemian will continue to lean on him when they face the Chargers who have allowed the seventh-most passing yards this season and have allowed 11 touchdowns through the air.

Ty Montgomery, GB – Just the fact that he may see carries out of the backfield again should put him in the forefront of your mind. The Packers have not been shy about getting him the ball – 25 targets and 12 carries over the last two games – and the Falcons’ 24th-ranked pass D and 21st-ranked run D are going to get a heavy dose of him.

Bargain Shopping

Anquan Boldin, DET – All this guy does is catch touchdowns. He’s got two in his last two games and four in his last six. He won’t see a ton of yardage, but against the Texans, who rank 31st in the league against slot receivers, are going to have trouble containing him inside the red zone.

Tyrell Williams, SD – He’s got a team-leading 10 red zone targets and has become an incredibly reliable option for Philip River this season. Denver’s secondary is obviously strong, but if the Chargers get inside the red zone, Rivers can toss up jump balls that Williams will have no trouble coming down with.

Michael Thomas, NO – I love this kid’s size and speed and so does Drew Brees who hit him with a season-high 13 targets last week. Obviously it’s the Legion of Boom they face, but look at it this way – the corners are going to be tied up with Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead which should help free up Thomas for continued work.

Chris Hogan, NE – With Julian Edelman still nursing a foot issue and not having strong career numbers against the Bills, I’m going to pivot to Hogan who could have a big day if the Patriots line him up in the slot regularly. Buffalo ranks 25th in the league against receivers coming out of the slot and give up an average of 77.1 yards per game to them.

Jermaine Kearse, SEA – How about a deep, deep sleeper play here? The Saints pass defense is bad, they’ve allowed nine passing touchdowns and rank 29th against WR2’s and 27th against receivers coming out of the slot. I’ll even use the “he’s due” argument here even though there’s nothing statistical to back it up.
