2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Suarez has just one save under his belt in the majors, but one would believe he has the inside track to open 2024 as the team's closer, despite San Diego signing Yuki Matsui and Woo Suk Go to bolster the back end of the bullpen. In 2023, Suarez posted a 4.23 ERA with eight holds and three blown saves, not to mention a 22.2 percent strikeout rate, 9.3 percent walk rate, and 1.30 HR/9. His home park is good for pitchers, so that helps him a bit, and his HR/FB rate should be lower than last year's hefty 18.2 percent mark. His changeup and sinker are his two best pitches, the former of which posted a .080 BAA and 37.5 percent whiff rate, while the latter registered a .086 BAA and 67.9 percent ground ball rate.

2024 Outlook: Suarez should ride his sinker and changeup moving forward, in exchange for a few less four-seamers. Additionally, he's arguably a two-pitch pitcher to left-handed hitters, though they didn't give him much issue last season. I believe Suarez opens the year as the team's closer, but I very much imagine this being a closer by committee situation, with Matsui being the next man up.
