2023 Player Outlook
Since being cast aside as the extra outfielder in St. Louis, he’s been having himself a solid time in the Nation’s capital. Over 146 games in 2022, Thomas slashed .241/.301/.404 with 17 home runs, 62 runs, 52 RBI, and eight steals. His .291 BABIP and .308 wOBA marks were solid too but overall his 96 wRC+ was just a tad below average (100 being average). There’s no doubt that Thomas’ role in the Nationals’ outfield is secure but what will 2023 bring for fantasy baseball managers hoping to take advantage of one of the lone bright spots on the roster. Thomas should see a resurgence in OBP as his walk rate dipped to 7.5 percent in 2022 rather than the double-digits it had been and that should help his overall slash line. An average in the .240-.250 range with pretty similar counting stats. Perhaps there’s an improvement in power and counting stats with an improved lineup around him as well.
