2022 Player Outlook

Catcher is a tough position to gauge. Do you risk taking one early and being weaker at other positions across the diamond or at pitching? Smith validated himself in 2021 and it makes sense why he’s being drafted as a top three catcher. Similar to Muncy, the players hitting in front of him raise the floor for counting stats. He’s had some trouble staying healthy, but overall it hasn’t hurt him too much over the last three years. The bigger concern is the fact he occasionally gets rest days since the Catcher position is so demanding on one’s knees. But he has the ability to rake for 25-30 home runs and drive in 80-90 runs. At his current ADP, he’s going in the top 70 players. So it depends on if you think taking a Catcher that early is worth it.
