2023 Player Outlook
Corbin Burnes is a legitimate fantasy ace, and there’s no denying it. Sure, we’d like the win totals to be a bit higher, but he now has back-to-back years with double-digit wins, a sub-3.00 ERA, and a 30+ percent strikeout rate. Last year, he logged 202 innings of work, a career-best, and he continued to increase the usage of his cutter. I’m not worried about Burnes with the new shift rules, because he has swing-and-miss stuff and can miss bats with any of his pitches. You could make a legitimate case to make Burnes the top starting pitcher off the board in fantasy drafts this season because I expect him to beat last year’s win total of 12. If all goes well, you’re looking at a durable, stud right-hander that ends the year with 15+ wins, a sub-2.80 ERA, and yet another season with a 30+ percent strikeout rate and double-digit K/9.
